Default Good Water Pump to Buy?

I realize this is one of those subjective topics but before I just flip the coin, I would attempt to better inform my self.

I am just looking for a good water pump, the frustrating thing is I see them for sale at all the usual places and the prices rang from 100 to 300 dollars where most of the time there is no supporting technical information to help differentiating one from the other. They all look alike and most have some sort of warranty. Ecklers- 200.00 (Brand??), Napa 200.00 (TruFlow), Pepboys 105.00 (Bosch), Summit (ACDelco 220.00), Cardone 92.00, Tuff Stuff Perf. 156.00) & GMParts Dirct 265.00...etc.

The other confusing thing is Napa advertises their pump as "counter clock wise" and others I have seen say "clockwise" and other say nothing at all. Why say anything if it doesn't matter? The pumps are direct drive so they only turn one way....I don't get it.

Corvettes with L98 engines have a reverse rotation water pump, If you buy a water pump specifically for your vette it will be reverse rotation, make sure you don't just get a chevy small block pump which is not reverse rotation...I also agree with the above answer, Stewart makes one of the best water pumps for our cars.. Most of the auto parts stores carry junk water pumps that will fail in a short time....WW

Well KJL, if the wp is for a c4 w/ a traditional sbc (stock parts/ not lt engines), then its a count clockwise pump. Its not a long or short pump, its a c4 84-91 water pump, thats all they fit. Its model specific.

I went through 2 Advance auto water pumps in 3 years before I bought my Edelbrock water pump. If it lasts you more then a couple years without leaking, consider yourself lucky ( Made in China)... The only reason I bought an Edelbrock is because they were out of Stewarts pumps and I needed one right away..The Edelbrock is a good pump but I like Stewarts better...WW

Ok, I checked out Summit and could find no Stewart pump for a 96. My guess is they wernt out of pumps maybe they carry them anymore. I wonder why Edelbrock didnt come up in my search either. Only the pumps listed above did.

I just can't trust my engine to potential blown fuse.

Not sure on the year of your vette always helps if you put your year in the post

Be careful on the 88-91 models, some pumps bolt mounting heights are not machined correctly and the a/c bracket can break if you tighten the bolts without checking clearance to the heater return hose tube.
If you get a cheap pump made in China you may need to use washers to get the correct fit of the a/c bracket

Sorry, it is a 96 LT4. I didn't see anything regarding the AC bracket so I guess that does not apply to 96.
