Default Learning to Scan / Tune 91 vette

91 L98, auto trans, ECM 12230
There is lots of post on the forum about reading data from the 91. I should have read more of them before I bought. The 91 seems like a problem child.

I have the ALDU1 and CABL1 from Moates and downloaded TunerPro RT. I am primarily interested in reading/monitoring data, not reprogramming chips, yet (maybe later).

First, can I mess up my car by plugging this stuff in and playing around?

Second, can someone recommend the correct files for this car? bin and data definition.

I have not been able to connect yet, but I'm reading and working on it.

Also, what is the point of the Xtreme ALDL. There are lots of posts about using 12 pin connector to USB.

all comments appreciated.

I have read a lot of stuff today to figure this out.
Everything I see show the 91 L98 as ECM 1227730. I recently had a chevy dealer work on my car. They replaced the ECM with a 12230.

Is this the wrong ECM? It appears to be for a 94-95 Dodge Ram 1500-2500?? This dealer messed up several things on my car.

Maybe why I am having problems connecting with TunerPro?

I would recommend asking Craig Moates whether the device you bought supports the new ecm.

He was very helpful when I was struggling to get tunerpro rt working with the moates apu1 on my 87. For datalogging you will need a $8D .ads file for a 91 (with a stock ecm) when running tunerpro rt.

Download here if you haven't already: http://www.tunerpro.net/downloadBinDefs.htm

I am using the $8D files, thought I saw using the 1227730_8D.ads as correct for my car, though it is not an F body car.

still learning.

If the ecm has been changed then that would explain why that particular .ads file won't work. Ask Moates about the dodge ecm or ask the dealer how to datalog the dodge ecm they put in.

I got turnerpro to connect, but the connection is on, then error, on, error over and over. The data is erratic. I have seen a similar post somewhere on the forum, flashing blue (connect), red (error). But can't seem to relocate. added: found the post, it does not help.

added: when DA: Connected is displayed, I am getting data. press throttle and throttle position changes. But switches from DA: Connected to DA:Error about every second.

Use Tunerpro V4 rather than V5 - I've had this problem before - something about the CCM on the Vette's.

Give it a try - it has to be worth it

I also find it very hard to believe that you would have a DODGE ECM on your car if its running. Most likely a bad cross reference with the ECM part number.

I also find it hard to accept the ECM is wrong. More likely wrong data on my part. However the part no. However the part no I listed is written on box.

Original ECM for 90/91 Vette TPI was # 1227727, similar to the F-Body # 1227730 but housed in a weatherproof case

GM replacement #'s are 16197128 or 16198260

All are treated as the same for tuning purposes, same TP files used
