Default Ignition timing setting

I have an 1988 L-98 that I had a cylinder head rebuilt/ intake ported along with new fuel injectors. Factory says 6 degrees for timing setting. What are the advantages and disadvantages for advancing the timing to 8 degrees. Seeems to idle better.

Default

If it does not spark knock, it wont hurt anything. Could help gas mileage a bit. 2* is not a big change but it changes timing under all conditions.
