Default Very quick tire comparison

My friend got his new tires the other day and I saw something VERY interesting. Sometimes you hear about some tires being better / wider than others, but you rarely see an actual side by side comparison.

On the bottom, a Michelin 255 / 40 / 17, on the top, a Bridgestone Potenza in the same size.... Methinks I'll take the Michelin.

BFG drag radials always seemed 'wider' than a standard UHP tire in the same size.

Manufacturers measure from different part of the tread to determine width.
Put a Sumitommo up against a Eagle F1 with the same size and you will see the same as above.

Think its good some tires are narrower given the same size

If you have a tight clearance issue it leaves options

Isn't that why they make different sizes to start with?

Well ,if you put a 315 on the rear of a non ZR-1 corvette, sometimes (especially lowered) its nice to not have the 315 too wide. Otherwise you have to go 18/19's or back to a 285 on a 17.
