Joe gibbs oils
Anyone heard of Joe Gibbs oils. I had a friend of mine tell me it's *the best* for high performance engines like the corvette.

If i can't have the link in there let me know i'll take it off.

I'm using the break-in oil for my 350. Most of them are high zinc, which is better.
I'm running AMSOIL in everything I own though. I will be running the new AMSOIL ZDDP racing oil in the Corvette once it's broken in, but it's not a street car.

My builder recommended the Joe Gibbs break-in oil for my freshened up motor which I used a couple of months ago. I am now using their HR1 oil for racing. Pretty expensive at 7 or 8 dollars a quart but cheap compared to motor prices.

good article about oils. Take with grain of salt. Not sure this test encompasses everything a motor sees but does shed some light on oils and protection capabilities.

Joe Gibbs and Royal Purple are highly overrated there are better oils out there for a LOT less. They dont stack up against the others like youd think.
Certainly arent bad by any means but if you want excellent rather than good there are better choices.

High zinc oils are great for break in and racing, but will kill a Catalytic Converter in very short order if used in an emissions vehicle..

Pennzoil Platinum is one hell of an oil. It always comes back with great results from labs like Blackstone and such. (Go to BITOG) You can find it at walmart in a 5qt jug for around $20.00, I have used the 5w-30 at the track in my 94 that puts out 450hp and runs low 12's with no problems. I would actualy rather use Pennzoil Platinum than RP. (I am a closet oil techno junkie)

Not quite true but appreciate the comment!
For the OP, I don't know much about Joe Giggs oils, but they are racing oils thus don't have the detergents and dispersants you need for daily driving, though they are high in anti-wear additives (ZDDP) so they will provide good protection.
AMSOIL did include Joe Gibbs oil in a wear test for the AMSOIL racing oil I use in my 02 Z06 at the track:
AMSOIL Dominator Synthetic 10w30 Racing Motor Oil (Product Code RD30QT)
(zinc – 1575 ppm, phosphorus 1474 ppm)
As can be seen on the wear test in the above link, Joe Gibbs did very well in comparison to the other oils in the test.
For a street car using normal oil change intervals, I'd consider this oil which is similar to a racing oil (high ZDDP) but has enough detergent and dispersant for 3-5K oil change intervals. Note that this oil does not meet either API SN, dexos1, or the superseded GM4781M standards as it has ZDDP too high for these specs:
AMSOIL Z-ROD 10w30 Synthetic Motor Oil (Product Code ZRTQT)
(zinc – 1440 ppm, phosphorus 1320 ppm)

Enough so that I took my 8 qts. of Mobile 1 15W50 back and exchanged it for Mobile 1 5W30
Doing an oil change today...draining it now.

Joe Gibbs = Marketing at it's best. I've used Wal-Mart Mobil 1 synthetic ($25.86 for 5-gal jug) for years with excellent results in all of my cars.

That same test was posted here in the C3 section (twice). There are a few of us that caution against drawing the same conclusions as the tester, particularly in flat tappet cam engines:

I notice your Amsoil ranked #4 & 19th...not bad in the grand scheme of things.
