Default Anybody put keyless on early C4?

I have an 88 and would like to put an aftermarket keyless entry on it. Does any one have any experience doing this? If so, what brand and how did it work? I have done it on other cars without any problems. My main question is if it will work with the alarm system. Thanks!

Put in a Bulldog keyless entry in my 86, no problems with alarm.

I have the Valiant system in my '85, no problems with the alarm. I got it from J.C. Whitney.

Thanks. I was looking at that one. How hard was it to install and did you include the hatch or just the doors?

Me too. In my '91.. About 3-4 years, works with factory alarm. Will disarm it with the remote, but you have to lock the doors before you shut them to activate the factory alarm. Easy install if you like getting under the dash and doing wiring with the bulldog system you have to buy a seperate relay to use the hatch function and horn. One of my favorite mods ever.

Google up the VKE-1000 and see if some local board has one listed.

I bought it for $80.

It makes a world of difference with getting in and out. BUT if you use this one, there are three "loops" under a hatch....one of them...I think Yellow...needs to be cut or clipped. Cutting that Yellow loop disables the "autolock" feature.

Talk about a very very irritating feature. Why in the hell do I need the car to lock the doors when it thinks it needs to.......when I unlock the doors, I expect them to stay that way until I decide differently...

I have a Autopage alarm in my 92.

It has both keyless entry and can pop the hatch.

It does not play nice with my factory alarm however. If I lock the car with the door lock switches as I get out, then unlock the car with the keyfob....... bad news.

I'm not sure if it was the way it was installed (I did not do the install) or if its just that the factory alarm is a SOB. It works well if you remember how you locked your door when you got out, if you forget your are going to annoy your neighbors .

Install was a breeze and I included operation of the hatch too. The hardest part was positioning the sender box the way the instructions say. They are a bit confusing, saying that the install goes in the passenger side door but I did all mine in the driver's door and mounted the box up under the dash as far away from the ecm as possible. It's been on the car for at least 4 years now and I just changed the first battery in one of the fobs.

Is the Bulldog KE1702 complete for hatch and door opening? Do I need anything else?

I want to buy a decent quality PKE to work hatch and trunk

Ordered the Bulldog

That'll do it. You MIGHT need another relay IF you decide to add starter kill (or a couple of other features) but they're easy to find.

Search my ID and/or Chuck Tribet. We both had keyless installs during 2010. Lots of discussion in a couple of those threads.

That's the system Agent86, Chuck, and myself used.

Chuck Tribolet, not Tribet.

I used the Valet 712T, not the Bulldog.

I did a web page: http://www.garlic.com/~triblet/RemoteKeylessEntry/
on my experiences. I did need a couple of Radio Shack relays (actually,
still haven't hooked up the hatch release bit).

While you are in there, install an electronic flasher so you can do LED
brake lights down the road.

Note that at least the first year or two of C4 has different unlock
circuitry (would actually be easier than the mine)

Thanks GREGPENN and everyone else too, I had searched all night and read all of the threads, the Bulldog is on its way.

I figure I'll do this while my dash is apart and wires are hanging!

Oh yeah, I will be installing a new beefed up with relays Headlight harness for my H4's and the Halo Tail Lamps are on the way too.
