I have an 86 and the rpo reads a 2.59 rear axle ratio. I will be lucky to get in the mid 14's with these gears.

You'll be fine. Fastguy's stock '88 with 2.59s was running 14.0 all day long. It even hit 13s a few times.

My 87 ran 13.9 once with 2.59s ,but averages 14.3 or so

I've got the 2:59, and although mine is an LT1, I ran 13.7s... all while ejoying good gas mileage at 75mph during the hour and a half every day I spend on the interstate...I also have VERY LITTLE traction problems with that ratio...

My 87 has one, but not for long. I just built a 3.31 and it's sitting on the bench waiting for a 3 series speed sensor and motivation to drop it in. :)

WTH was the general thinking to put a 2 series in a Corvette. Must have been a democrat at the plant. :lol:

I have the 2.59 gears as well and i have little intention of changing them. The L98 torque curve is actually very fun with these gears and I dont have to shift to third until about 94 mph @5100-5200 rpm. :cheers:

I have the 2.59 right now and have run a best of 13.37@102mph.

Since I broke something(haven't taken it apart yet), I'm putting in a Dana 44 with 3.45 gears.

My 94 has the 2.59 ratio and I don't have any problems getting to mid 13's in the 1/4, not to mention that I don't reach 2000 rpm on the highway until I am up over 80 mph. 1st gear is deep enough to handle the ratio well, from my perspective.

I had 2.59 and upgraded to 3.73. It was like a totally different car, it scared me the first time I got on it.:)

Use to have 2.59's and now have D44 with 3.45's. Wouldn't ever consider going back. Mileage is only off about 1.2 MPG which is no big deal. Could only manage a 14.1 at Carlsbad last year with the 2.59's. :U

Since you have a conv it is probably 2.73's. Look under your console lid, Gu2 is 2.73, G44 is 3.07's.

i'm going all out, and will be dropping in 4.11's or 3.73's this summer hopefully. If I wanted gas mileage, I would of bought a four banger

Umm..... in your '87? I hope you are running a miniram and spinning ot 7 grand. Otherwise you will be out of the powerband WAY too fast.
