Default Timing Chain on an 87

I am thinking of changing out the timing chain on my vette. It has 100K, and I don't remember if the chain is all metal or has those stupid nylon links. If it is all metal, how stretched would it be?

Thanks for the help!

Its all metal the timing chain set on your 87 Corvette.

It will be stretched the timing chain.

How much ?

You will know for sure when you go to change out the 3-piece timing chain set.

I have an 87. Swapped the cam and timing set at 85000 miles. The original had some wear but not nearly as bad as I expected. Still had a lot of life left in it.

I have a 87 also at 120 K, I changed to the double roller and was very glad I did. The chain was getting ready to kiss the timing chain cover. The teeth of the timing chain had really dug into both the cam gear and the crank gear. It was time.

For insurance, change it out since you are in there. It beats having to tear stuff apart again in a year or two. If you want the best, go with a Cloyes true roller.
