One can't do any better. The seals on the spicer work better than some out there so water does not enter and rust. Also, the amount of lube is measured so don't try to add any during assemble. You might try to keep each cap in order to assure same position and lube amount. I had to find a truck supplier to find mine here in Nashville, Tn.

I was told by Paul the owner of Northside Corvette in Cedar Minnesota that you have to replace the caps when you replace u-joints. Ant truth to that?

Are you talking about the straps that hold the u-joint to the shaft?
I doubt you HAVE to replace them. I didn't know it was an option when I did the u-joints on my half-shafts. I took hours cleaning those suckers up - If I had known I would have replaced them.

If you are talking the caps that ride on the needle bearings - all the new u-joints have them.

if you are considering higher HP, may want to just go with this step that includes the u-joints.:

http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/p127..._inch__19.html

These are 4 inch diameter aluminum half-shafts that replace your stock 3.5" aluminum half shafts.

Better than the steel halfshafts they make (less mass).

Not sure if they will clear rear coil-overs though if you have that mod.

They also include the best spicer 1350 (non grease fitting) u joint.

I'd like to know if anyone has actually broken one.
I mean someone that drives their Vette mostly on the street.
Having the ability to give these a shot of grease once in a while is reassuring.

I for one have Spicers but when the time comes to replace these, will Spicers be available anymore?

I was referring to the straps.
Those are some pretty fine half shafts but probably a little over kill for my daily driver but is would help the appearance of the under carriage.
It appears Spicers is the way to go.
Is Summit Racing’s size descriptions correct on their site? There are discrepancies in the sizes they show versus Calderone’s links.

I have done two C4's now. The spicers just slid in so easy with minimal effort from a press, hammer, or whatever. the half shafts I did with the imported cheapies were an ordeal that took a long time to press in. They probably ruined the yokes as the properly sized ones would fit loose now.

I'm about due for new U-joints too but I am a little confused about which part number is right for my '87. I copied this from the Denny's Driveshaft site where the halfshaft assembly is shown:

Please measure from the exact center of the u-joint cap diameters at each end of the shaft for an accurate center to center overall length dimension to order any half shaft. Please measure the universal joint cap diameter carefully. The 1330 series (usually found on early eighty’s aluminum half shafts) will have a 1 1/16th inch (1.062) u-joint cap diameter and the 1350 series (usually found on all years steel or aluminum) will have a 1 3/16th inch (1.187) u-joint cap diameter.

Do we know for sure that the 1350s fit an '87?

Shouldn't they all be coating for use in aluminum or just the outboard ones?

They come like they come ..I never seen any coating on them ..I guess they had something on them the ones off my 96 were 14 years old and looked very good @140,000 miles.. Just take time installing and ride... I had a clunk in my rear and the vett had one in the rear also ..I was hopeing U-Joint not the rear so changed the rear fluid and all U-Joints stoped the sound and I don't know what it was ..No sound out the back now ..The spicer Joints were 14 years old and looked new when I got them off..

Right here..Best\Strongest U-Joint you can buy.

http://www.neapco.com/nA-aftermarket-products.php

Yes U-joints must be coated for aluminum half shaft sides and Neapco's are and HP ratings are way higher than spicers.
