Runs out of air or Valves are floating.........with a 3 Inch ID Dual Exhaust system

I speak from experience on 400 ci to 462 ci BB Pontiac V8's.
The bore & stroke on your Stroker SBC is borrowed from the Poncho 421 made from late 1961 to 1966.
Most guys do not know that.

Its really a sad scenario I think there are no true 3 inch dual ex kits for C4's that are mandrel bent & run all the way to the rear bumper.
The system is a full 3 inch mandrel bent system, but it goes thru a reasonator and 2 mufflers, but the SS pipes are 3 inch.

I know I will never have any issues with flowing enough air threw 3 inch.

Rick try to get a hold of Tom WOng. I know he moved on to modify c5s/c6s but I had an x pipe from B&B that I returned to him when I bought my new system. I even ceramic coated it. If he hasnt used it it could be lying around but the only option I can think of is buying from B&B.

A few years back, it seems on this forum there were some posts indicating that for what-ever reason someone else made the x-pipe for B&B.....

You might want to check this out and perhaps eliminate the double markup if you go new..

Rick just go run the car, dont sweat whatever the dyno sheet says it can always be played with later.

If anyone knows best how it would affect your motor its your builder if he hasnt told you already sure he has tried the 421 a million ways from Sunday

so..

Get some miles on it, go have some fun run it down the track;go beat it up some. Then once you have the car mastered you can chase a tenth here and there.
Worrying about 10hp is time you could be enjoying the car.

Get crackin

I am not worrying. This is something I wanted to do down the road anyways.

Go have another smoke.

Its so damn hard to quit smoking cigarettes.

I have headers, straight pipes, and a nasty cam. It's really not a good setup for street driving. It's insanely loud. Think open piped Harley. Have you seen these mufflers before? They are cheaper than electronic cut outs. I was going to give them a try before I retired my daily driver to a weekend street/strip car. Now that it's not driven as often I don't care as much about the noise. If you are happy with your mufflers than I would just add some regular cutouts to the pipes for the option.

Cutouts...

I know on my setup I'm loosing a bunch of power. I looked around and flat out couldn't find a better solution that lowes near the numbers that I was looking for. I'm thinking of ripping the system out save for the mufflers (they look pretty) and tossing some dynomax bullets to look like cats and adding cutouts and an x pipe. That way I can open it up at the track.

At your horsepower level does ten more really matter? My X pipe came thru EXOTIC MUSCLE. It lasted two days. The sound was unbearable!
There is a difference between a "sharp rumble" and just plain noise. Then again my twenties are long gone. The days of opening the Lake Pipes and terrorizing the neighborhood at night are nolonger practical. Even now, with the original B&B system and the T trim the old ladies in the retirement community jump when I drive by and give the engine a quick rap. Lots of fun. Enjoy

I run walker dual 3 in dynomax race bullets. They reduce sound a decent amount over straight pipe, they flow, and they sound pretty awesome at idle, partial, and wide open.

however, I am going to get rid of them in favor of some turbo style mufflers instead. I think losing some, if any horse power, is worht it to keep the cops off of me.

I have hook super comps, x pipe, dual 3 and a 480hp 383

I guess any comments from me and my little 350 would not be useful to you. I switch back and forth from my 3" B&B which I love for it's looks to a stock system with elims which I love for it's sound. My stock LT1 (just roller rocks) probably doesn't flow enough for the B&B. At the auto cross I do better with the OEM system and elims. But this all changes this fall after I finish the build. I do like the deep sound of the B&B though.

At my level? Its not as if I am making a crazy amount. If I knew I would gain 10rwhp I would do it foresure. Its only for special occasions at the track for instance.....

I'm curious, just what is your 421 putting out for power at the rear wheels. Once upon a time my 440 inch bored and stroked Pontiac (1964) was a lot of fun but back then could not compare to the power my current 383 small block puts out. In my case I usually can't get traction untill third gear (If Im lucky). I assumed you were in the same situation. Sorry for the assumption.

So how many yrs before the tips go on

Seriously just stick the thing on the dyno go down the track then mod
Or skip the dyno and hit the track.

Dont think 10 at the tire is going to make any difference at all it takes a lot to shave a tenth or two when youre in that 11 sec range. Not the difference youre used to seeing going from 14s to 13s
