You can't get it all apart without drilling them out, correct?

OK, I'm assuming you are doing the bushings in the upper and lower control arms.

How many miles on the ball joints?

Here is what I did on my 92:
remove the support from under ONE side motor mount
Remove the bolts from the sway bar end link
remove the nuts from the ball joints
use a 2 jaw puller to seperate the ball joints from the knuckle
remove the A-arms
replace the support for the motor mount
do the same on the other side
on the lower A-arms, remove the old bushings. I used a c-clamp, sockets, drywall saw, screwdriver, pliers, sandpaper (the last was to clean things up)
Then I took all 4 a-arms to the machine shop and had them remove the ball joints, press in new lower ball joints and replace the busings on the upper a-arm

At one time I knew what it cost me, probably and old post can be found by searching.

You do not need to remove the ball joint to remove the control arms. The ball joint just gets popped off the spindle. If you want to replace the stock ball joint then yes it needs grinding/drilling to be replaced.
