FIRST RIDE, DART 388, as I promised
Hey guys,
I took my vette for the first ride today with the new engine for the breakin ride. I have had V8 sports cars my entire life. I have driven a worked National t-type . I rented a 09 vette from Hertz down in FL for a day. I have even owned many liter racing motorcycles when I was younger.
I can honestly say this is the only car that has made me nervous. Im not sure if it was because the tires were cold and it is about 35 degrees out. It definitely took me for a ride.
I have owned the car for about 10 years. And I have spent every day for the past 13 months building it up. I built the engine with the idea of running a SC with about 15lbs of boost. After driving it I am probably going to run less boost when I set up the SC.
Here is what is in the car.
90 l98 six speed vert
388 Dart SHP splayed, forged pistons rods crank 9:1 comp
AFR195s with 1.6 rr 7/16 stud
Comp 280xfi
http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...?csid=209&sb=0
Superram ported with ported base to match, 30lbs injectors for now.
TPIS 58mm t/b
EM headers 1 3/4" 3" dual SS exhaust with xpipe to a set of stage one single chamber flowmaster's.
Canton 7qt 250t with melling select 10%
Here is the intial startup, I posted it up before so you guys may have seen it.

Here it is coming out of the garage. It is registered, I went this morning to get the antique plates. I got excited forgot to put them on.

Here it is driving. My buddy in the car has been a good friend for about 20 years. He is the guy with the face mask on in the first video. I apologize for all of the dudes and bros. At 1:47 she broke loose at around 40. And yes I was cooken. I told my buddy, "hey you trust me". (famous last words).

Everyone on this forum has helped me out with this build from the beginning. I just want to says thanks for the help and taking the time answering my questions.
I would also like to give special thanks to:
Caboboy,Aardwolf, Mseven, pologreen1, 383vette,
Pwnage1337, Rodj, coupeguy2001,96GS#007,cuisinartvette, Kubs, 87 vette 81 big girl, WW7, and of course JAKE, god rest his soul.

Way to go. Be careful. It sounds like it's running well and you've got some horses. Willie

Thanks for the pics and vids. Sounds very good for only 9.0-1 compression.
I have a few questions for you.
What SC do you plan to run, and have you researched that yet?
Who tuned it, and are you running stock ecm?
Why 388, and not bigger with the aftermarket block?
Good for you. I shouldnt be too far behind with my 421.

I had a pcmforless tune done on the stock ecm. I am going to get a Moates setup in a week or so. The reason for the PCMforless tune was because I did not want to run it lean or washout my rings for the breakin. After it breaks in then I will play around with it. A couple guys have been pointing me in the proper direction as far as tuning.
The reason for the 388 was I had already ordered my rolling assembly and had it balanced. Then some issues were found with the block I was going to use. So I ended up going with the Dart block. I was going to swap out the assembly but I could easily make up for the cubic inches by adding a little extra boost. I figured on the street will you notice the diffrence between 680 and 700 hp.

I was looking into the prochargers. I like the idea of a self contained unit not sharing the engine oil. Maybe a D1-SC or a F series.

Of course you wont and anything over 500rwhp on the street might be a waste anyways unless you are doing highway pulls up to crazy speeds.
Have you thought about asking MSeven and seeing if you can help you out with the tune, and will you be throwing it on the dyno n/a?
The link didnt work for the comp cam link. Is that cam 230/236?

I have been speaking with mseven. He has been pointing me in the right direction. I think the speed density helps.
I will probably put it on the dyno after the SC. If I can find someone to put it on the dyno for a decent price in the spring I may do it before the charger.

Stupendous! Love the vids.
Hard to control yourself during break-in, isn't it!
Plenty of articles talk about revving it to break in the rings though! You've got a solid motor. As the Aussie's say: "No worries"

I know an owner of a perf shop and he is having a dyno day in march. For $50 you get 3 pulls.
You wld have to drive to L.I but thats not bad for the price of the dyno pulls.
Let me know if your interested, its posted on a local car forum so if you are ill put up the link and you can pput your name on the list.Still spots open.

WW I followed your build very closely. Thank you for posting up the details of your build. I used alot of techniques that Pete K and you used for your engine. I said to myself, "that is a nice tight engine build".
I will definatley get some videos of it in the late spring when I put on the SC. When I found that I had installed the chip wrong it was a embarrassing relief. Hopefully if it ever happens to someone else they can find my post and it will help them out.
WW7 thanks for your help and I hope all is well.

Gregg your cars paint is mint. Any tips on polishing out the black paint. I have been using Mothers and Meguiars but I have a few hairline scratches I want to remove. Let me know if you have any tricks you are willing to share. Also thanks again for all of your help.
