Default will it thrw a code with a cooler water senser ?

Thax guys for the congrates on my new "89" corvette ..But i noticed how warm the car likes to run It went as high as 220 when the fan turned on ...Call me old school chevy but i like them to run between 185* and 200 ..Anyhow i then got a 160* thermostate from a local auto parts store and i ordered a low temperature fan switch from corvette america Part # 40372 that turns on at 200* and off at 185* and now i am hearing that it may throw a code ? Is that true ?

No

Won't make any difference ; engine will just take longer to heat up and still run at the temp dictated by fan

i agree in a way , the motor will even out to about 185* from what i am hearing going down highway at speed , but fan will help , being stuck on jammed parkway or slow traffic i hope

no codes, but that 160° thermostat will not allow your engine to reach proper operating temps quickly enough, reducing fuel mileage and increasing engine wear.

Race on!!!

Defiantly a 180 degree thermosat. Look closely at your anti-freeze. I spent a lot of time with my 95 LT-1 after purchasing it because it ran a lot hotter that I thought it should, in the 220-230 area. I found jellied antifreeze. The result of PO mixing Dexcool and ethylene glycol (green) anti-freeze. The radiator was inhibited! I finally replaced the radiator with a stock one from Corvette Recyling for $100, flushed the system by taking the knock sensors out (see Forum) and flushing the heater core. Now in Houston summers I rarely get over 205 and most of the time lower. Replace all hoses and WP while at it and use green anti-freeze. Good luck.

Put a 180* in there and kick the fans on. You'll stay at 175ish. Or you could put a 195* in and turn the fans on and stay between 185 and 200.

I had installed fan switches brfore the flushing and radiator change but early fans did not help the high temp. The Dexcool contamination wrecked the radiator flow according to my radiator shop. I recommend the fan switch anyway. I use a DPDT switch so that I can turn on one or both. Traffic back up on Houston freeways comes up unexpected and at 130+ pavement temp I go to fans as i start see the slowdown. In the fall winter?and spring I never need fansfor 200 degree average temp. What ever works.
