Default toggle switch for electric fan (84)

How can I hook my (one) wire temp fan switch, to a toggle. That way I can turn my fan on anytime. Is this possible? How can I do this?

One side of switch to ground, the other to relay terminal. Follow the wire from switch to relay, to be sure you are grounding the correct terminal.

Looking at my info, 84 uses a dark green/white stripe wire, as my 86 does. Should be easy to find at relay.

It works fine, I just want to be able to turn the fans on at will. The sensor will still come on at 200 and 20 something degrees like it should, If I wire it the right way, right?. It will still work like it should, but I will have the option to turn it on. Sounds good to me. Why not?

Totally understand that you want to turn them on at will, but it's very easy to forget to turn them on when you should and easy to forget to turn them off when you should.JMO

If I get a toggle switch and "splice" it into the sensor wire and ground the other wire, then the sensor will still work and even if I forget to turn it on, it will still work, because the sensor is still hooked up. I don't think there is anyway of leaving it on because you can hear it. So the worst that can happen is the fan gets left running

I've done the same thing with my 84 bracket car. I turn the fan on manually while in the staging lanes. After my burnout, I'll turn the fan off. Water temp is usually around 170. I'll make my run without the fan turning on. My car is setup so the fan will automatically turn on at 190 even if the switch if off. Willie

The way he's setting it up, he won't have to worry about forgetting to turn them on, it'll still use the sensor ground.

Turning it off, on the other hand, could be a slight problem but the stock fans are hot-wired to accessory, I believe, so it's not like they'll keep running while the car is off.

Sounds good.Probably cheaper than having the chip burned so the fans come on earlier.

The OP has an '84. On an '84, no amount of chip burning will turn the fan on earlier!

the on off temps are a function of the fan switch in the left head. The primary side of the fan relay is powered from the acc. Sidr of the ignition switch. Even grounding the green/white wire from the relay ckt #335. Won't run the fan.

Race on!!!

I have an 84 so I can tell you for a fact what it does. If you use the two fan wires for a splice, the fan will run even when the key is off. However, if you use the two relay wires, then the fan will only run when the key is "ON". ACC will not run the fan. You'd be better off going through the relay unless: 1) Your relay is broken or 2) You want to run the fans after you kill the engine. I have mine wired straight to ground so it's always on when the key is (because I'm too lazy to run a fan switch)

Auto Electrics 101
Only have to read the circuit diagram above to see what it does
If you are dumb enough to hook fan up direct to the battery ;of course fan will run full time
