Default Fire Hazard?

I picked up my car from the shop yesterday and after a while I noticed the smell of raw fuel. Opened the hood and pulled off the passenger side fuel rail cover and found the #6 injector spraying fuel on the engine. The space between the intake manifold and the valve cover was about 3/4 inch deep in fuel.

Now I know I need compression, ignition and fuel to make the car run, but can the raw gas catch on fire in a situation such as this?

Isn't it hard to get gasoline to just ignite?

YES, it can ignite!!

Get that fixed ASAP, and don't drive the car with it like that.
Fuel like that will get warm enough it emit vapors. The vapors are highly explosive.

I had a similar experience, but it was an o-ring on the FPR that leaked. There was quite a bit of gas on top of the intake base. Nothing happened, luckily!

Don't even start the car up until that's fixed. It takes no time for the exhaust to get hot enough to ignite the fuel.

Default Thank you

Right! I forgot about the vapors. I didn't drive it after I saw the leak. I had the clowns who had just repaired it tow it away last night.

Thank you all for your responses.

in this neck, salt is slathered on the roads 1/2 every year... auto gas tanks/fuel lines (steel construction) are attacked by the salt and pinhole leaks often develop, some on cars only 4 yrs old...when alerted to an 'auto dripping gas' situation, the fire department immediately responds with full crew/truck/sirens wailing, cordons off area and 'locks down' any source of ignition, hooks hoses to hydrants, tow truck removes 'offending' vehicle (at owners expense), fire department 'flushes' area.

consider yourself VERY lucky that you did not 'make an ash of yourself'
