Which line is the discharge and return line for the transmission.

On the 700R4 the bottom fitting on the right side of the transmission is the "out" line to the cooler and the top fitting is for the return line from the cooler.

Thanks. There seems to be other information out there. I need to recheck mine when I can.
Some think the return to the transmission is the bottom line and the top line is the Out to the radiator.

Does it matter? The cooler/radiator doesn't know or care which direction the oil is flowing through it...

I always plumb my stacked plate cooler so the oil comes into the cooler from the bottom and works it's way to the top. It might not make a difference, but it seems like there will be no chance of air entering the column of oil this way.

Gotcha. Here's how I oriented my engine oil cooler:

It's not going to make a big difference which line is used where for the radiator cooler.

For a external cooler they should not be mounted down like that. Air can be at the top and stay there. Those type of coolers should be mounted sideways or upside down. ***Lower fitting is the INLET*** to force air out.

Here is what I made:

pay the mechanic

the bottom (radatior line) goes to the top of the trans

and

the top (radaitor line) goes to the bottom of the trans
