Pro's and con's of removing frisbie
I searched the archives and didn't find what I am looking for in regards to should I or should I not remove the frisbie. I am half way through changing cam, heads, and intake system and saw the frisbie sitting there and thought I should ask for info regarding the removal.
A quick reply would be greatly appreciated as I will be at that stage of the rebuild this evening.
Thanks!
Steve

It can't hurt to try the frisbee delete. It's there to add rotational inertia so A/C engagement doesn't bog/stumble the motor. From a performance perspective, people usually want their rotational weight reduced so that it spins up to speed as quickly as possible.
For a street motor, the frisbee represents a relatively small portion of what's being turning in the whole drivetrain so the results won't be signficant, but might be noticable in track times.
Try it. If you A/C engages w/o issue, leave it off. I consider that increasing your performance (via cam, heads, and/or CI increase) will help prevent A/C engagement problems anyway.

I removed it 10 years ago, and haven't had any type of problems.

Thanks guys, for the answers. I decided to remove it. Unfortunately, living in Miami makes it necessary to keep the AC, so I won't be removing it. I have already dumped all the smog crap and run w/o cats. No smog inspections here, thankfully.

Maybe I didn't do anything wrong since it isn't complicated to replace a belt and remove the frisbee. The front compressor seal that leaks is inside the compressor, nothing to mess up with that on the outside. The Nippo compressors front seal leaking is a known problem with these compressors. I also noticed a vibration when turning the A/C on.
Also, mine doesn't have extra compressor bracket bracing that other years have. I've just got the one long brace on the side. Other years have I believe 3 compressor bracket braces.
