Default Just for ha-ha's....

So, I'm feeling lazy and want to replace the cam in my 96 LT1. I call the local stealership just to get an idea of their labor costs. I tell them I have the cam and all associated parts and require only their labor. They call me back after a little while and seem enthused. Ok, drum roll.....$2664 labor only! I almost drove off the road while laughing. So much for feeling lazy, I'll replace it myself.

You could have them change the heater core out 3 times for the same $.....they'd earn every penny of that money.

Ive been curious to watch a shop would charge for this as I have been wanting a cam and supporting mods for a while but dont have the time or garage to do it. Anyone else have prices/quotes they have received for this type of job?

Good luck getting the job done if you try to supply your own parts. Any reputable shop won't touch a job like that when a customer supplies his or her own parts.

Ok, to your point. What would you think a reputable shop would charge supplying their own parts per customer specs including labor?

what are the Crank Horsepower gain on this?

I was going to buy and install a bigger cam (This is a Kalifornia legal CAM would still pass SMOG inspection.)for my 96 and after I did two weeks of research, parts, gaskets, coolant, DIY-no labor...etc etc,

The gain was maybe 10-15 horses at 6,500 RPMS.

...NOT CO$T EFFECTIVE

I agree the cam itself would not be cost effective. Heads would follow as well as exhaust. Although from SOTP a 9.5" 2800 stall and a set of headers would provide a better cost effective solution. It's the fever of more hp/tq that always gets me in financial trouble.
