Default When you go too far (pics)

Sometimes it happens when you get a little aggressive, this happened when it was all done and just using some rolls for appearance's sake.
With a cast piece it can still feel thick yet run into air pockets imperfections etc where you think youre safe and blammo. theres daylight to greet you. Epoxy could have worked but wasnt my piece so welded we went.

Appears to be a small hole no? That flake popped right out along with a larger one not pictured

This much welding was necessary as most times tig blows a bigger hole

[

working it after I got it back to try and make it look "right" which it doesnt but its risky grinding weld and finding something else only to have it happen again. UGh

No one cares how the weld looks and besides I don't see a thing wrong with the looks of that weld. After it is welded, LEAVE IT ALONE!

Nice weld nice job!

It would have been hard to back up the hole with some brass to reduce the blow out, the hi heat you need for aluminum doesn't help either.

You da welder!

That's a survey of one.

I'm not saying it's a bad looking weld, just that's it's a bad generalization.

Great repair!
Hit the entire exterior of the runner with a media blaster abrasive and I bet you won't even be able to tell it has been repaired.

Weld looked a little cold for my taste. Crank it up more next time, or try a smaller filler. Need to get the edges tied in better.

I also agree with the leave it alone after welding. i never grind welds for the fact you welded it was for strength and grinding kinda ruins that.

Handed the welding off to my machinist who is pretty proficient with tig welds a lot of cyl heads and blocks. he didnt feel comfortable doing it so it went to someone else . Thought it came out good myself.Personally I would have epoxied it and painted as theres really no stress on the part and just carrries air but the part doesnt belong to me I was just porting it; its his new build so he was a little particular about appearance cant blame him I suppose but theres always risks. Their part, thier decision.

Depends on what you want, some nice welds on some cut up runners can change a stock looking motor into something a bit more intimidating.

Thanks for sharing.
