my driverside window will only go half way up. It goes down from that point, and when i try to close it, it stops half way. i can here the motor working but will not move do you think it is the plastic ribbon inside? i thought maybe the gears had worn down.

Sounds like the ribbon may be cracked, but you'll have to pull the door panel and dig in there to find out for sure. I might have a ribbon you can have if needed.
