Default Thermo and fan temps ??

Is there an ideal cooling setup for the mild street 383ci setup? What I mean is I am going to install a EWP and was thinking of changing (lowering) the on-off temp for my fan controls i.e 190* on-175* off. Should the thermostat open when fans kick on? What are you 383 guys with under 450hp running for fan temps and thermostats and how is it working?

190 on / 175 off = 160 degree thermostat
200+ on / 185+ off = 180 degree thermostat

At 175* off in an LT1 running a 160* stat, the fan will never stop once up to temp.

205 on / 190 off with a 160 thermostat i believe will be your best choice.

160* stat is OK if you run only in hot weather or race the car. For year around including cold weather I think a 180* stat with 210* on and 195* off will work better.

OOps - you're right. Just pulled up the listings in Statt and they call out a 180 degree t'stat.

I saw a listing from delco that said 195 - must've been a typo.

Chevy V8 engine was designed for 180*F operating temps. EPA requirements caused that temp to increase. If not special reason to use a higher temp T-stat, go with 180*. 200-205*F turn ON temps: 190-195"F turn OFF temps. You can put a 160"F stat in the engine, but it will have NO EFFECT other than to slow the engine's warm-up time to final operating temp.

Last I checked, that was what the tuner wanted for mine.
