Tracing bad wiring and heater core change.
Used the pipe you see on myself for getting into this.
Had to have one of these to do this job.

Heater core is done or as done as it gets. Didn’t have to remove anything more to get at it. Never was able to put the cover on the way it came off. There’s a small gap (1/16”) in the upper right corner where it would not no matter what I did fit the way it was. Not sure if part of the core is in the way or what?

Hey Mike, do you know what the upper group of wires just below the dash pad in you picture are for? the ones just above the big cluster. I think there are six wires in there and they go into the doors? but not sure what there for. These are the wires that are fried on my car.

In order to gain access to all of the heater system (and the burnt wires I have), I decided to remove the dash completely. Do the three rivets shown in the picture that are directly above the steering column need to be drilled out?

Here is my list of tools from my heater core job a few years ago:
(Had a picture of it all on the hood (pre re-paint) but villagephotos sucks)

GIN & CAMELBACK- Fill the camelback with gin and strap it to your back, you'll be under the dash, no time to waste reaching for your drink.
1/4in SOCKETS- Have the whole rack, just make sure it's all 7mm sockets so you have at least one left over when you're done.
EXTENSIONS- You'll need exactly the length they don't make, and a different one for each fastener.
ELECTRIC DRIVERS AND BATTERIES- Have them all, make sure they are all charged, anything less than 4 batteries, go shopping.
GIRL SCOUT COOKIES- A DEFINITE, I recommend Thin Mints(put'em in the freezer) and two boxes of Samoas.
SPOTLIGHT- So you can see into the abyss you'll be working in. An ordinary drop light is not sufficient.
HAMMER- Your going to need to bang the crap out of something from time to time The old heater core makes a fine target
SHOVEL- Why the hell not, it can't make the job any worse.
EARPLUGS- These are for the women and children. Many people have been known to create a mix of words that would make a **** star blush. :bb

Agent 86, yes to the pulse problem, turned out to be the vats. I had mentioned the two wires with pellet between them held together with a clamp. I put a new ignition cylinder and key in it and it cured the problem. Someone had put a non vats cylinder in it thus no pellet in the key I got with the car.

Whats up keith?Looks like your nailing that wiring hopefully not with the hammerWas the heater core leaking?I don't think the rivets have to be drilled out but am not sure.If they do I have a rivet gun you can borrow.Make sure you check the heater core for leaks before you put everything back together.

Hey Jeremy, the core wasn’t leaking but as long as I had the dash torn apart to work on the wiring I decided to replace it fear that it may have been clogged. It looked like it needed to be replaced once I got it out so I’m glad I did. I won’t have to worry about doing that job again for a long time. I also checked it before putting it back together. After looking at those rivets probably don’t have to come out. Besides I really think the wires that are fried were speaker wires so I’ll probably just leave them alone and get everything back together so I can enjoy it.
