Default Power Chip

I`m very new to ECM`s and the like.

Would a new chip provide lots more power, torque and allow me to run 12 second 1/4 miles or be very dissapointing?

Where and which is a good one to buy?

Any experience and opinions would be much appreciated?

Is this a serious question?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. If you are asking if you just just snap a "12 second quartermile chip" into you car, then no.

An L-98 motor with a chip and supporting mods can hit 12's with drag radials, but again....I wouldn't say it's the CHIP that will get the car into the 12's.

A performance chip is basically what a dyno tune is for newer computers. It adjusts a:f ratios, and the Thermochip from Hypertech (which I've used on 2 of my Vettes), has programming to work with a 160 degree thermostat as well as changing the fan switch settings to have the low speed fan turn on at 180 degrees rather than 225.

I think it was. A more serious answer is: No, a chip by itself will not get you bunches of horsepower. Save your money.

It was a crap joke, the extremes being 12 second 1/4 mile or just dissapointing. Sorry. I`m fully aware it will never run 12`s with me driving and doing the mods I`ve only managed 15s so far.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the advantage and what is meant by having 160 degree thermostat and the fan switching on later (it runs hotter?) does this improve performance a lot?

If you buy chip from reputable company it can increase HP twice. Be careful, some guy did it and rear tires just fell apart- too much power! Or you can just install extra OEM chip.
