Default [Paging]: Gene284, question for your brakes.

Gene,

Would you happen to know if any of your upgrades will fit over the 16x9.5" Corvette Enkei wheels used from 84-87. I know that some 13" upgrades out there are supposed to fit over them, but thought I'd ask if yours do.

If you are not positive, thats fine. Maybe there is a Corvette owner in the area willing to stop by and swap a wheel for fitting. :)

Thanks!

Have you seen the latest C4 front brake adapter kits themselves on display? Check here:Electro-Dynamics Brake Adapters

Electro-Dynamics has on display at the factory:
A)1985-87 front knuckle/hub assembly with the C5/Z06 caliper and rotor

B)1988-96 front knuckle/hub assembly also with the C5/Z06 caliper and rotor.

I'm sure that they can be removed from their display stands and placed within a wheel and rotated for freedom of movement.

Can you make arrangements for a fellow forum member that would have the wheel you are inquiring about to stop by? Also , should any other forum members have wheels that they would wish to have checked for clearance, we could designate a day for this, perhaps a Saturday. I'll try to post the next day or two pictures of the actual early C4 and later C4 displays.

Feel free to contact me with questions.

Thanks Gene, they look great. I'll see if anyone in Ohio is willing to go on over. :)

Those pictures here look pretty cool!

I'm having problems viewing their site - pics don't show up. Can you tell me if just the rotors/calipers need to be changed? Not the knuckle or stub axle? (I'm owning an '86).

My AAA Road Atlas shows him to be 6 hours drive away (one way)...A bit too far... :cry

You are correct, the knuckle and the hub do not need to be changed. You would need C5 calipers and rotors. A good suggestion is Jeff Kopp, 18carfan, as he has excellent service and prices.

You would need C5 calipers and rotors...
Does that also require C5 wheels & tires??? I have the OEM 9.5"x16 wheels. If it required all new W&T I'm SOOL...

What about proportioning valve? Required? Rear parking brake???

BTW: Gene, if the E-D site is one of yours, be advised about 80% of the pics do not show up in Netscape...And to your probable response, no, I don't have or use MSIE... :D

As Scorp508 has mentioned some wheels may fit, those being the Enkei ones. All other 16 inch probably do not fit, and the Enkei may not even fit.
However if you know what wheel you do have, you could have another forum member come by Electro-Dynamics with the same wheel. They would extend this same invitation to others that have wheels they would like checked for clearance. This would be better accomplished on a Saturday, however Electro-Dynamics welcomes people to stop by anytime to see the products.

Gene,

I just ran outside and the inner diameter of the rim appears to be about 15.25" with a quick and rough measurement. It actually was a hair more, but I would use 15.25" just to be safe.

I suspect if we could get the E-D guys to measure from the centerpoint to the furthest spot a caliper cooling fin sticks out we would have a rough idea. :) If it is more than 7.625" I guess I'm outta luck.

These are approximations:

The fins at the outside face of the caliper are 7-1/2 to center.

The fins at the inside face grow outward, are 7-11/16 to center.

Fins could be machined off in the back, as caliper body appears smaller than the height of the fins in front. Or your wheel ID may enlarge as it goes back.

Again these are approximate, and would suggest checking with an actual wheel.

You have not addressed the "pocketing" of the front face of the caliper in the inside face of the wheel. This can be an obstruction with aftermarket as well as factory wheels. Diameter is not the only place for "rubbing".

Not trying to discourage you, just don't want you dissapointed.

Do you have a friend in your area with a C5. If you could install your wheel on the front of his car to check for clearance would accomplish the same thing. Just don't mess up his painted calipers ;)
