When does one reach the point of having "proof"? How much investigation and feed-back does it take? Becomes an individual call, right?

I read a lot, and I recall reading a very thorough, unbiased investigation done by a guy who tested virtually all of the available filters commonally used on our engines. He, in detail, measured, examined sealing methods, examined filtration material, flowed them, case thickness, burst pressure, drain-back valve, on and on and on.

He then evalutated the differences among them based on all the criteria he used to determine the quality and effectiveness of the tested filters.

Fram came at the bottom of the list in about all the catagories tested.

No, I didn't save the URL to the research, I just made a mental note of what he did and his conclusions. If I tried saving links to everything I read, in the off-hand chance that, someday, someone would ask me for it, I wouldn't be able to keep up.

Make Google your friend and you probably can find it.

Best I can do.

Jake

Fram has been rated poorly in almost all aspects from many different sources....Who makes a cardboard filter? Mobil 1 is the only filter I will use. Like it or hate it, either or. I couldn't care less....Just thought it was a interesting read. If someone wants to use Fram, have at it. *I* dislike Fram. Period.

Josh asked about NAPA Gold filters.

NAPA Gold filters are made by WIX and, in one study I read, WIX was rated as one of the best filters available. The only difference between NAPA Gold and WIX is the part number (To get the NAPA part number, just take the last four digits of the WIX part number).

Everyone has their personal choice for whatever reason so I don't fault anyone for their choice. With that said, I useNAPA Gold filters or AC Delco for my 'Vette. In a pinch, I will use Bosch (Which also rates high).

Just my 2 cents worth.

Norm.

NAPA Gols is Wix. Wix and AC-Delco are the only filters I will even consider. And my choice is not made from what I have heard, only from what I have experienced. Fram does indeed SUCK!

That’s why I don’t like having oil changes done at the Jiffy Lube type shops. Who knows what cheap filter they use.

Although there are a few that will install a filter you bring in. But they won’t deduct the cost of the filter you brought off their ticket.

Wix (aka NAPA)

or Mobil on cars that I care for.

I run Frams on my Jeep cause it just doesn't matter.
