Should I get a custom chip (L98)?
I am in the process of putting my engine back together with an Accel super-ram base manifold, LPE large tube runners, 160 deg. thermostat, ported plenum, and throttle body bypass kit. I already have a K&N w/ cut lid and muffler elims. Would a custom chip make it run better or more efficient? Who should I get it burned from- mine is a '91 L98 auto w/ 2.59 gears.

If those are your only mods, I think you should be fine without a custom chip. Unless you have done major mods like changing cam, heads and injectors, you probably won't see a large enough power gain to warrant the price of a custom chip. The idea is to get in as many mods as possible before spending the money on a custon burn that way you don't have to keep buying chips. If these are all the mods you are ever planning on doing to the car you might want to look into it, but once you drive your baby with that SR on it, you might get hooked on going faster and faster and then you will wish you waited on a custom chip.

well are you done with mods or are you gonna put the full SR and Accel 219 on later?
If youre done, go ahead. If not, wait until you change the cam.

I agree with the last post. The best money I have spent on my 89 auto was installing a used 3.45 6 speed rear end. It feels like you just added 100 hp. I went to the 6 speed rear end because it is a stronger Dana 44. You do have to change the drive shaft and carrier arm with the rear end but you can usually find a wreck and get the whole unit.

Put the $$ towards a bigger rear end gear.

Don't do the chip yet, get an AFPR to tune fuel to air at WOT.
Consider a HyperTech coil/cap/rotor, good wires and cut-back plugs for a better burn, more HP and better economy too.
You would benefit from a 2 1/2" front Y and hi-flow cat.

It would be nice to be able to get the fans programmed to make better use of the 160 stat though. I can't give any tips on doing a fan switch b/c I got the chip instead.
