Sucks about your injury man, but good to hear that you healed up and have gotten some work done

I'm sure I'll regret this later, but the truth is I have not made this car a priority in too long...

Would anyone who has followed this build be interested in taking over?
I'm fairly close to completion. Things that come to mind it still needs:
1- Engine mounts or plate
2- Wiring, keep in mind I have a nice plug and play engine/trans harness and ECU
3- Clutch hydraulics (have the parts)
4- Seats (the only part I really do not have at the moment)

I have new:
-Melrose Swap headers
-Dewitts LS1 Swap Radiator
-Water pump, balancer etc
-Laser cut Aluminum dash w Auto-meter Guages

Completed:
-D44 inspected and installed new rear hub/bearings and ARP studs
-Full Banski rear suspension
-Racetronics fuel pump , new classic tube fuel line
-Liberty Face-plated T56 six speed with C-beam bracket
-98 LS1 with LS6 intake and stand alone harness/ECU
-C5 front brakes
-17x11 front and 17x13 rear wheels/tires

$10k would take it home with the LS1, T56 and all mentioned parts. I have much more in it!

I would consider trades up or down (plus or minus cash). Manual trans C5, G8, GTO, CTS-V or LS1 F-bodies come to mind.

I've been pretty candid with this thread. No surprises.

I don't "need" to sell it, but I have been facing the reality I don't have time for this project at the moment...

Your pretty close to done with this thing. Ironically this thread was saved to my favorites and served as a resourse that I went back to quite a few times during my own swap. These projects certainly take alot of time. For every hour I spent in the garage I spent at least that much time online doing research.

Thanks. I have some bushings on order. Maybe if I get it back on the ground I will see light at the end of the tunnel.

I am determined to get back to work on this thing!

That's the spirit!

I remember this thread from when I first joined the forum, but hadn't subscribed. Must've planted the LS idea in the back of my head, though.

Glad to see you came to your senses!!

Wisconsin winters do seem to have strange affects on people?

TJM

Oh we finally finished our 1984.. and it scared the crap out of my 16 year old helper. "Lots different from my Miata" and he was shaking!!!

Thanks.

However...

They were chrome chinese knock offs of A-molds. The chrome started pitting w less than a years use. And they were track wheels - never saw snow or even rain.

Not an issue for track wheels, but I would stay away from cheap chrome wheels if you care about appearance.

The wheels I have now are nice polished 3-piece wheels. I got them from another member. 17x11 fronts and 17x13 rears! Kind of a dated 5 spoke design, but I dig them. I'll try to get pics of them up one of these days.

You have a very neat project and I am a huge fan of building 1984's. They are the lightest of the C4 family, parts are fairly cheap by comparison and I didn't feel bad carving mine up into a street legal weight reduction project. I can't wait to see your car completed!

I'm with you on the 84s being a good target for a performance build. I also cannot wait to see it completed! These kind of comments really help my motivation!

Thanks!

Thank you!

Actually, to be honest, removing the rear facia was a PITA! Even though my car is from the south, some of the bolts were corroded and snapped off. I had to take a hack saw blade between the body and facia to cut a couple. And you need to work in some really awkward positions to get at some of them. All that said, it is do-able. Just takes patience.

I just started following this thread. Fascinating.

For you youngsters, scary is a 1968 SS 396 Chevelle, 396/325, 4 speed. 4 wheel drum brakes w/ no power assist, no power steering, open rear end, bias-ply tires.

Thank you!

Funny you mention a 68 Chevelle and drum brakes. In high school (late 90's) a buddy had a really nice 67 Impala. It had a built 327, but still the three on the tree and drum brakes all around. I remember rowing through the gears as fast as I could, then coming up to a stop sign... More horsepower and not updating the brakes is crazy! That is just what I mean by cars that scare people.

Oh, and I almost forgot, it had bias-ply tires!

So sad...Back in the day we would put 500ci caddy motor in an old chevy ..brakes what brakes little drum things that was scarey... I love it good luck....

The old cars were scary. I recently sold my 71boss 351 clone and it was one of those cars that was scary. When it got up to around 140mph it just didn't feel stable to me. My supercharged C4 at the same speeds does feel stable. The handling of it is light years ahead of that old mustang.

I used to own a 67 Mustang when I was young (around 85) it was worn out rusted out $400 dollar toy but it would run like a scolded dog and to this day I would say it was the fastest (and scariest) car I have ever owned--until I got my Vette. I loved that car

Another couple months and no progress on my end...

$8k bottom dollar.

You could probably part it out for more, but that would break my heart! I want this car to be completed. I just don't have the time/motivation.

If you are considering a swap, this will save you a ton!

You got project burnout syndrome been there many times.
Sat for a few yrs before ya finally get tired of looking at it.

Noone wanted to pay for a project..finally dug in and did 1 thing a day on it then killed myself over a 2 mo period and started it. hated every second of it and like you no time/motivation.

First time it fired up all that went away

If you can do it youll be glad....and like the car again.
The fever and excitement will return promise.

Or burn up some plastic bring it to a shop and tell you to call when its done.

Like that trans would ma ke agood spare. Done right that LS1 swap should be 50 state legal.
