There was a humming sound coming from there and I replaced all but the DMF. The noise came back/never left. I bought a new DMF.
If the noise comes back, I'll turn up the radio.

Replaced clutch @ 35K (clutch fork backing out caused it)
Did not relace flywheel
Now at 90K clutch still hanging in there, DM beginning to rattle.
Plan to go aluminum when I can

After having a lengthy discussion with my mechanic earlier he assured me that the flywheel should last a long time if you do not race the car or regularly beat on it.
Additionally - of those of you who did replace the flywheel, was the flywheel making any of the noises associated with a worn out unit?

Replaced everything at about 100k when I rebuilt the motor including Dualmass flywheel. The new throwout bearing lasted only 5k and came apart. Put another clutch kit in again but bought a Delco throwout bearing this time.
If you are going into the clutch, I would do the flywheel also. This is a lot of work to do again. Just my $.02

I went with a full OEM clutch. I got a new DM flywheel off ebay, stock clutch from the same place, and a new blue-tag while I was at it. The clutch master cylinder was a pain to get right. I let a mechanic change my clutch and for some reason the new master cylinder had a spacer on it which made the cylinder piston get pulled out of range and leak. Once that was fixed it's been smooth sailing.
I don't know anything about the original clutch. The original black tag trans had a bad 2nd gear syncro, and the car had 132k on it. The clutch rattled at idle and turns out someone had put in a single mass flywheel.

I had an oil leak that got onto the clutch. I fixed the oil leak and replaced the DM and clutch I got from e-bay. I still feel like I stole the combo for $400. It was all new from a crate engine. I did it at the 45K time on the clock. It's been great ever since.

I replaced my clutch assembly when I bought my car, since it wasn't running very good and I had to remove the engine anyway. The chassis/transmission had around 123k miles on them (engine had been recently overhauled, only had around 8k on it at the time). The flywheel still looked good and didn't feel loose. I don't know if it was the original or if it was replaced at some point.
I got the clutch assembly from Autozone for around $280, I don't remember the brand. But I haven't had any problems with it or using the original flywheel, no noise or rattles so far and I have since put 4-5k miles on it since then.
