Default Stripped rearend

Was attaching the rearend to the batwing and all 6 holes are stripped. I took on a basket case project and at every turn there is something new. Is this a job for helicoil? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you might be able to get away with helicoiling the stripped threads. it'll make it like new again and they're just as strong...

That's a somewhat common problem with these cars...same thing happened to me...I helicoiled and it worked great.

Went to Advanced Auto, 5/16 - 18 kit, then to Lowe's for 21/64 bit and some grade 8 bolts. I'll give it a go in the morning.

Helicoils will make it stronger than original.

Because the stock bolts are tri-oval "self tappers" I found the holes were not threaded all the way to the bottom; about 3/8" short.
I threaded the holes all the way and used the Grade 8 bolts to make studs so in future I am not undoing on the alum threads.
