The ZF6 is your only bolt-in option.

I have heard that the ZF can be a problematic transmission. Is this a good idea to replace with a brand new zf or should i consider other routes even though it will not be a direct bolt in.

IMHO, the ZF6 is one of the best manual trans out there.

the ZF can be noisy w/an aluminum FW, but good luck finding a more durable manual gear box....they can take a beating....never heard of many people having problems w/them....the hydraulics can start leaking from the master/slave cylinder but that is not an issue with the transmission itself.....
