It can be done very easy, it's just how much it will cost to do it correctly.

Randy

with my unruly motor and low speeds this would be a gift, do they make a kit? and can the automatic take punishment?

No they don't make a kit, for the vette. But the can buy the part for a salvage yard to convert it. Then you're going to need at least a 2600 stall convertor for you unruly engine.

Like Randy said, just get the parts from a Auto car and swap it all in. I used a 700R4 so there was no computer work involved. Just have the tranny built right before you put it in.

I used:
:Tranny 700r4
:3500 Yank converter
:Flywheel
:Flywheel dustcover for 700
:Factory center console for auto
:Factory auto shifter with wiring for lights and neutral lockout
:Graphed in auto tunnel piece to mount shifter
:Auto yoke, used existing 6-speed drive shaft and c-beam
:Z28 TV cable
:Modified my throttle bracket to accept TV cable
:B&M lockup controller
:Removed Clutch/brake pedal and installed auto brake pedal
: Cooler lines and tranny cooler. I installed a BeCool auto radiator, could use any aftermarket one or stock auto rad.

I've broken a ZF and a 700r4 drag racing. But for bracket racing the auto is much better and easier on the rear launching.

explain grafting auto tunnel piece to mount shifter

is the transmission held in place by the same mounts as the zf6?

If you do drag race or bracket race much, go with the auto swap. I did and have never regretted it. Increased consistancy and less parts breakage. You don't need to modify the trans tunnel, and the auto console is pretty much a bolt in.

modify with what a hammer?

I calculated the cost, seem like with a tranny that can take 500 chp, it will cost around 1200.00 and the rest of the stuff without labor will take it to 2000.00

I sell my stuff, for 1200? that's 800 buck parts only diff add a shop to do it

What I did was replace the hole in the top of the tunnel for the stock shifter, with the auto closed off piece. I then bolted the auto shifter into the factor holes. I did this so it looks stock.

The Auto bolts to the block and torque arm same as the stick, just need differant bellhousing bolts.

without the auto closeoff piece there would be no way to mount the auto shifter correct?

I suppose the close off piece is the same for the 4+3's and the Zf6?

someone mention the tunnel needed some modifications, what would that be?

Not correct.
If you plan to obtain (buy) a core, build it to achieve 500 hp all day long, then add a suitable converter, you are looking at 2 grand or more. Likely much more in california.
If a business can sell you the above for $1200, then they are either:
1)Working for free
or
2)Not giving you what you paid for.

We did exactly this on my buddy's 92 formula firebird.
It was a very cost effective way to go.

I have a black tag, with a zfdoc shifter,

What have you don't to your 700r4?

no one has told me about the modification that i would need to do to the tunnel

my radiator I belielve had bungs for auto cooling lines, but I sprayed water in them while cleaning OOPS, will this cooling be sufficecient for a hi-po tranny?

miles on your car? mine has 132k pampered, primped and preened miles, would the trade be whole or would additional parts be needed, i have a zero balance requirement for the flex plate. and my console cover has an fx3 switch cutout.

I want to go the other way with mine. The 700r4 is ok but I like rowing through the gears.

Is there a way to add rear trans mount to help hold the trans in place? I don't trust the current setup because of the added HP and the crisp shifts the car has.
