Default What to expect from new Torque Converter?

I'm going to be putting a Yank Stealth 2600 in my car. Mods are listed in signature. I'll be running it with a set of 255/50 16" BFG Drag Radials, what kinda performance should I expect?

Don't know what your #'s will be, but whatever they were, you'll be right around 3 tenths quicker now.

good luck

I'm thinking between 2.0 and 1.8 60's if the converter lives up to it's hype.

Better be at least 1.8x. I cut 1.9x with a stock 85 Converter (in my 85)

A friend of mine in his untouched 90 vette put in a 2600 rpm vigalante and has ran a best of either 1.75 or 1.77... don't remember which... and ran 13.1x @ 102-103 mph. His best 60 ft before the Vigalante was roughly a 1.98.... I think forum member Vic experienced similar results to this and he has even broke into the 12's with his 2500 rpm converter, I think his converter played a huge part in that outstanding et.

You made a good choice... great results should follow, and btw, make sure you get those drag radials good and hot to bring out the most of your new modification.

cheers,
Beach

I'm getting the Yank Stealth also. How will this affect around town driving? Will it be a PITA to get the car moving? And since it has a higher stall, will it kill my highway gas mileage??

You will barely notice a 2600 rpm converter, after literally 20 minutes of driving it, you won't even know you have one in. No your vehicle will accelerate as it does right now. It will not kill your gas mileage.... as an example, my 383 with a 3000 rpm converter I get 27mpg on the freeway (Real #, would be closer to 29-30 mpg if I had kept my 3.07 gears in).... My converter locks up at about 55 mph.

For everybody contemplating a 2600 rpm converter on a stock L98 or LT-1.... just do it, you'll have much improved performance and it will not hurt your daily driveability in anyway.... its not until you get to 3000 and above that you start to notice the stall. Which even at 3000 rpm its not bad at all. However, if you are looking for a seat of the pants improvement on the street..... probably not what you're looking for.... when you apply wot your vehicle will launch much, much harder.... thus additional wheelspin... but if you're a racer and plan on running sticky tires.... Its almost a mandatory modification !!!!

Here's a couple of personal video's of how a C4 launches with a good torque converter.

I love my torque converter(Jet, stalls about 2650) :yesnod:

When I first put it in, I didn't think it was going to be streetable...I was kind of worried, but like Beach Bum said, 20 minutes later and I didn't have a problem.

The Yank Stealth (PN 33-ST2600) is a 12" converter (same size as stock)
and only has an STR of 1.90
Check out the comparison chart: http://www.converter.cc/

I could be wrong but I don't think this converter is comparable to a Vigilante and will yield the same gains.

Beach is right, I have a 2500 RPM convertor, but it is a 12" GM convertor.
My Tranny guy purchased it from the dealer for under $200.

I am sure if I had the Vigalante 9.5" convertor, I would pick up even more ET.

My 60' times are consistant 1.80 seconds. And sometimes I break into the 1.76-1.79 range. Of course these times are with DR's fully heated up.

Vic

If I could cut a 13.1x I would be MORE than happy! :D There's too many punk kids around here driving LS1 F-bodies with just flowmasters. I figure a 13.1 oughta shut em' up.

You have about the same mods as my car. I personally think a 13.1 is stretching it a bit. I think 13.4-13.6 with drag radials and no spin is more likely.
