TracerX on the forum dropped a LS1 into a 84. It wasn't easy and I'm not sure if they ever completed the job. Last I heard it was running and had been driven, but not sure if he had any probelms that cropped up with it.

When I went to U&W Corvette Parts in Hannover, Germany, to have my new brakes installed, I saw a 71 coupe that was just getting a LT4 engine transplanted. The guys there told me of another 71 convertible that they where equipping with a LS1 engine. Their webside is
http://www.corvette24.de/

I think, they have an e-mail link posted there.

BTW: I´ve heard you´ve done something nice to the centre console of your late C4. I hate the plastic look of the original! Can you post a pic?

I've seen this car. It looks like a factory job.

IMHO, I'm sure it's possible, but not worth it. If you have a look at some recent Vette magazines, the editor is installing an LS1 into a Shark. They are having issues with motor mounts, oil pans, etc. The Shark is easy compared to your 95 because it doesn't have any integrated transmission/engine/ABS control. It will be very difficult to install an LS1 and pass IM240 emissions (I see you live in Naperville, so it can be a very large issue). The 95 has a Power Train Control Module (PCM) that need the optispark to function. To make the LS1's ignition system work in a 95, you'll have to make an optispark simulator.... If you don't have the optispark, then you'll need to program the LS1 PCM to emulate an 96 LT1 when the emisson tester person hooks the scan tool to you link and scans for codes.

All in all, I'll bet it's much cheaper and easier to hot rod your LT1. A set of AFR heads, a new cam and some long tube headers should get you in the 330-350 RWHP range, that'll beat a stock LS1 with ease. You get to keep the PCM, so no hidden nightmares at the wonderful State of Ill emissions test station.

Just MHO,
Eric

Um, the factory LS1 motors pass IM240 just fine. As long as the emissions stuff is installed there should be no problems.

The 95 has a Power Train Control Module (PCM) that need the optispark to function. To make the LS1's ignition system work in a 95, you'll have to make an optispark simulator....
Why would you think of retaining the LT1 PCM stuff??? An LS1 requires an LS1 PCM to run. The CCM would be the bigger problem. Dunno how you would retain its functionality.

If you don't have the optispark, then you'll need to program the LS1 PCM to emulate an 96 LT1 when the emisson tester person hooks the scan tool to you link and scans for codes.
Brian's car is a 95, so its OBDI and is not required to be scanned. They dont do visual inspections, so they wouldnt know a LS1 is under the hood.

Agreed. A 383 motor with a supercharger would be much easier and be able to run away from those HEAD&CAM LS1 cars.

I can't imagine how you'd get the ABS/TC to work on a 95 with an LS1 PCM. I guess you could just dump it (ABS/TC). Might have a big battle with SES codes.

I agree they don't look under the hood (in Chicago), but I thought they pulled OBD1 codes too. My mistake.

Well, at least we agree on this point

you are gonna loose ABS. the torque converter can be controlled just find by the ls1 pcm. either way, the transmission is gonna have to be out of an f-body since the vettes use transaxles. id get the t56 from the fbody. but then there is the issue of the transmissions need crossmembers, and c4s dont use crossmembers to hold up the rear of the transmission. its a chore, but doable.

I used the motor and trans out of a 98 camaro. I started by making a bracket to mount the rear of trans to factory torque arm, made motor mount adapters, and a few other odds and ends. I am very happy with how the car turned out.

Well, I guess I won't drop you a line about this thread, Trace. :)

Anyway, Motor mounts are EASY!!!! There are a lot of other things that will be a lot more difficult. :yesnod:

BTW, Traces car is up and running. I saw it the other day! It looks very nice...except for the master cylinder... :p: :p: :p:

Trace,

You need to put up a website that details this conversion. It's quite an impressive accomplishment and it seems you are becoming somewhat of a legend!

I keep telling my Brother in law and friends of what a legend I was before my football injury

I am putting together some info and hope to have a website up very soon.

Thanks for the compliment.
