After hours of breathing those pleasant resin fumes I have to completely start over on the fiberglass box. It turns out I would have to raise the sub above the level of the amps for the housing to fit in the cubby hole because of the 1/0 gauge wire that I routed inside the cubby hole. Now I re-routed the wire and will be able to lower the false floor another inch the way I'm going to redo it. I did learn that I will use only weave fiberglass cloth (instead of the mat/weave combo), its much cleaner to work with, doesn't soak up as much resin and comes out a lot smoother which will mean less sanding later. Good thing I like doing this stuff or I would be kicking myself right about now

Awesome job so far - I was hoping for some more fiberglass shots - sorry to hear about that. It seems it's always two steps forward, one step backwards for auto projects - I feel your pain.
If you don't have a good respirator already, it's worth its weight in gold! I used to use the cheapo disposable ones and then I bought this one from Lowes - about $40 and you can buy replacement filters. It is very comfortable and sometimes I forget I'm wearing it. Working with cleaning solvents, hexane, toluene, mold, fiberglass (insulation), and sawdust is not a problem.

Nice job, looks good. I am using those same speakers in the front of my car. Where are you going to mount the tweeters?
I sound deadened my car this past summer after it was painted, and the results are amazing. I used Raamat and Second Skin Over Kill Pro. I have not installed the new speakers, subs and amp, but I will do that soon, as I will have a lot of time on my hands being unemployed.
Good luck, and keep the pictures coming.

I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination. However, I certainly appreciate the skill and talent involved in what you're doing
Keep up the good work, I (and I'm sure many others) are looking forward to seeing the completed product.

Just got back in town and I removed the box and cut it roughly with an angle grinder so I can see where to mount the ring. I'll probably have to add 2-3 more layers of glass on the inside, it should be about 1/2 inch thick for a sub getting this much power.

After painting the fleece with resin I added a few layers of fiberglass as you normally would. I'm going to add 3-4 more layers of glass today then comes sanding, coating the top with rage gold, sand then rage extreme and more sanding.

But first I cut this hole to get access to the joints where the sides meet the top to strengthen it further by adding glass there. The angle of the cut is around 45 degrees to get more surface area for the glass to bond to when I build it back up.

To do this I tore up the mat to make "kitty hair" is what I think they call it. They make a special blend of polymer into fluffy beads that you mix with resin to make a peanut butter consistency like paste to do stuff like this . I have it but don't feel like driving over to the storage unit to get it, it would make this step a lot faster but I'm in no hurry as you can tell lol.
