My Weld Pro Stars are hitting the Brake Calipers on the rear of my 88. So I bought 1/4 inch wheel spacers and tried to put the wheels back on. I have long shank lug nuts but there isn't enough stud lenghth for the lugs to go on. Can longer studs be put on without removing the Spindle or should I just grind the Calipers down? Any help would be appreciated. THANKS Pipe

You can replace the studs without taking the hubs off. NAPA sells a longer stud.
I have them on all the way around on my 91.

Longer studs are required by NHRA anyway, they have to be out I think double of the diameter of the stud they need to protrude above the wheel, or something to that effect..... so you really do need longer studs anyway and considering how cheap they are, its a no-brainer. I have ARP studs..... bought from Jegs for $ 20 or so..... not much.

But, I would grind down the calipers before running the spacer, many do this without any problems.... I just hate to add driven rotational weight..... but no big deal I guess.

I used to have a set of Weld draglite XP's that were designed to clear late model brakes and they worked great and fit under the fender well without any problems at all...... considering I do not think Weld makes the XP's anymore, I regret selling them.

Are the factory ones pressed in? any tips on knocking the old ones out and putting the new ones in? THANKS Pipe

The old ones are pressed in. They knock out very easily with a hamer. If you think you may want to reuse them some day then thread the lug nuts on so the stud is just short of flush with the lug and hamer the lug nut. This will save the stud threads from damage.

perhaps your local Autozone or auto parts store has a "loaner". I believe that a ball-joint removing tool will accomplish the same job so long as it will slip behind the hub. Avoid the "hammer" if you can!

Here's a GM stud part # 22551491 that is 76MM long and I use them with 18MM spacers. No problems with the install either, you just need to "nick" the stud a bit to drop behind the hub. They're the least expensive alternative if you get treated well at the GM parts counter!

Hey guy's went to the A&A auto store and ordered some ARP wheel studs. The guy I think said they are 3 1/4 inches long. Wish I would have checked this post out before I went to the parts house. Stupid me they are $91 ouch for the 10 of em. Pipe

1MM short of 3/4" (.708 vs .750)

The GM studs are really inexpensive!

15x8 with 5 3/4" backspace I had to grind the calipers on the 90 to get em to clear. I'm going to use em on the 88 till I get the 15x10s with a spacer. Pipe
