Default memcal # for 86

I am doing the conversion to the 165 ecm, I have an 86 vette, manual transmission, 5.7L TPI, no EGR, no VATS, does anyone know the correct memcal # for this vehicle, I can't order one from the dealer without this #. Please help.

There is a little confusion here as the 86 came with the 165 ECM. ??
Also, the dealer can't supply a PROM with EGR and VATS delete.
Need more info.

Shannon,
I thought you had an 85...if you are doing a conversion, you can use any compatible bin....most use an ARAP bin, since it was the last 165 MAF bin, and supposedly the best...to delete the VATS is a simple flip of the data at that location, deleting the EGR requires a bit more data manipulation, but is easy to do, but you'll have to do this yourself, as the dealer won't have a prom that will do this...

Cheers,
Michael

With a 4+3, you would want a manual transmission specific memcal, preferrably an 87 or 88.

Note: the O/D on/off switch wiring to the ecm as well as the first gear switch is different between model years 86 and 87-88. 86 has no first gear switch on the trans.

Dan (Agent86) and myself went through this when converting an 88 bin to run the 4+3 in his car.

Since you're doing a conversion, you will want to wire your ecm like 87-88 (instead of 86) to make use of the latest 4+3 bins, or you could run a variation of Agent86's bin.

Confused yet?

Michael,
Thanks for your reply, we are getting ready to do this conversion and lining up parts, the VATS and the memcal has been the holdup, can you do this for us, we will be happy to pay you for parts and your time. You've already been so helpful, thanks again.

Shannon,I replied to your PM...I'm not skilled enough to do this, but gave you several valid alternatives...If anyone here understands the programming bit, it would be Tequilaboy, he's very knowledgeable....

Cheers,
Michael
