Help me pick a new starter for my 88.
Looks like I need a new starter. A new GM starter costs about $306.00 plus $50.00 for shipping. Would it be cheaper if I picked it up at a dealership? I don't want a rebuilt or remanufactured. I found these on the internet. I know that Proform makes some stuff for GM. Anybody try any of these?

Much cheaper and lifetime warranty....What could be wrong with that? I worked rebuilding starters and alternators when I was a kid and since then have never hesitated to purchase a reman unit. It is not like it is more than an hour fix should the odds fall against you.
Just my $.02 though

I think I'm gonna buy this MSD. Anybody have problems with a MSD starter? Will it fit OK?

Why not a reman?

I got this one from Summit Racing. It's a gear reduction starter made for a high compression race car. It's brand new. I figure it will spin a stock L98 pretty easy and it was cheap.

Just grab a $100 one from the auto parts store.
I just replaced mine a couple weeks ago.
Could also replace the solenoid for $15 (didn't go well for me, I stripped all the screws out trying to crack it open, ended up taking it all back and buying a new starter)
