Im tired of my 87,now i have a stuck gas pedal !!!!
This is sick, today i was test driving it,and i parked it (yes still with a bad "P" parking) ...start it again and i drove it for some blocks to find out that the revs are constantly at 1500 rpm, goddamn i thought it was sucking air or something, but i realized that if i pull back the gas pedal with my toe,it comes down to 700 rpm again, which is where it has to be,i opened the hood with my broken cables and i lubbed the throttle spring with WD-40,and it was better,it travels all the way back, but i find out that its getting stuck on the pedal itself....what can i do ? what's not working like its meant to ?????
damn im getting tired of every little problem
but i have to fight it .-

There are 3 pieces that connect yout foot to the engine.
Gas pedal assembly
Throttle cable
throttle body
No matter what the problem is, it is one of those 3 mentioned, and inexpensive to fix.
Inspect, isolate, replace defective piece.

i've just took a look on the gas pedal from the inside, and i found nothing abnormal,
is there a place where i can lubricate something ? the sleeve seems normal
or maybe its just better to replace it ?

Two things - pop the cable off the throttle body and see if it works smoothly. Second check the throttle plate. I had one that was sticking closed and it was due to carbon build up on the throttle plate. That can be cleaned with throttle body cleaner and a rag. Hope this helps.

The cable that connects the gas pedal to the throttle body has an internal teflon coating/tube that gets worn out over time....so when it wears out there is more friction than the throttle body's return spring can over come. Replace the cable or do what I did and install an additional spring (accordion style spring) to shut the TB all the way. I have been running the extra spring for ~4 years on my car and have had no problems with the mod.

Also, I would advise changing your choice in spray lubricant. WD 40 is a great solvent. It has a habit of cleaning grease out, then leaving no lubricant behind. Follow up with LPS or, something similar. You could also try dripping motor oil on the cable and working it back and forth.

Look at a can of WD-40. You will find nothing about lubricating. There are much better choices.

I have seen a similar problem on my 87, and a couple of other 87-88s. They all came down to the connector/adjuster at the cruise control diaphragm coming loose. This leads to just a little pressure on the cable causing it to stick part open at varying times. Look close to make sure the nut is tight and that there is no pressure in it's cable also.
Good-luck.

Sorry no pics...follow the cable to were it goes to the diaphragm above the battery. You will see where it is attached through the bracket to a short ball chain. make sure the cable can travel about 1-2mm before it actually moves the linkage at the t-body.

If there is no cable from the t-body for the cruise control...Never mind my suggestion. If there is a third cable just remove it so it doesn't hang up in any way and keep looking for the problem.
