Default Performance of bolt-on Vettes.

Curious about what a typical bolton vette will run in the quarter. Typical might be wrong word but what I'm trying find out is what times are you guys running with just boltons. I've seen f-bodys post times as low as 12.2 with a full compliment of boltons (in an extreme case)...considering that the vettes are lighter than the typical fbody(camaro, firebird), has anyone here tried to extract the maximum performance out of your vette before going into the motor and what quarter mile times have you gotten? I believe a more realistic time for a bolton fbody is around 12.7s.

The times in my sig are with only boltons and no motor work. Then there is Red Crew that were/are running mid 12's with boltons and a LT1 auto.

you might want to redefine bolt-on.

typical bolt ons such as cat back exhaust, pullies, air pump elim, no precats, adj fuel reg., and an open lid on a late L98 has resulted in high 12's. Was it Vic89 with a few bolts ons running in the high 12's or somebody else? It really has a lot to do with how well you can drive :yesnod:

Yes, I ran 12.93 with bolt-ons. All the mods are in my signature.

I am not sure if the question you are asking is for LT1's or L98 vettes.

The fastest stock motored LT1's I have seen are in the mid 12's.
The fastest stock motored L98's I have seen are high 12's/low 13's.

Also, some people consider heads/cam/intake as boltons.

There are a few heads/cam/superram L98's running 11.6's.

You have to also consider that each time someone comes up with a better time due to a mod, they also know the car better and have more experience driving it. Practice makes perfect. :yesnod:

The mods in my sig are on my Z28. I'm not real happy with the numbers but I guess at a 3700 lb race weight, there is still room for improvement.Just by removing items that I may not need hopefully I can squeeze into the 11s.

The topend kit was around $2200. I do have 1.6 rr already. I wouldn't mind trying some longtubes but don't know if it would be worth the investment over the SLPs.

Not to be picky..... but are gears and torque convertors considered "bolt on". They both require some "major" (comparitively) work to install.

My LT4 got into the high 12s lots of times @ 109-110 MPH, before I went into the motor. The real key if you are looking for ET, rather than MPH is traction. You need the tires. Drag radials are barely adequate with 17 inch wheels, especially with a manual car. An automatic car has a big advantage with a loose converter, when traction is questionable. With a manual car, ET Streets at a minimum should be used, if you don't mind changing tires. Anyway, it is just a matter of how much you are willing to do. 12s are no problem.

John, I think you had done a little more than what is listed here to get that number...what about intake, suspension tweaks, programming, etc. Yes those may be the 4 major mods, but you have to list the little things that contribute to the mid 12's. Someday, someone will just do those 4 things, go to the track, run mid 13's and wonder what the hell is wrong.

Also consider that the time is at probably the best prepped and one of the fastest tracks in the country.

---------------------------------

Save the money you would spend for bolt ons and do a package upgrade if you want more performance. Traditional Bolt-ons may get you 30-40 horsepower or a couple of tenths at best (air foil, exhaust, intake, throttle switches, throttle bodies, headers). If that is what you want, then go for it. Like so many others, I supose I am just an overachiever when it comes to mods.
