Default Anyone ever weighed they C4?

I was wondering if anyone has weighed their C4 with the themselves and th works being full, gas tank, radiator, motor oil, trans fluid etc. I know the curb weight of an 84 is supposedly 3120 or something. Is that the weight with full fluids??

The advertised weight of my 96 6 speed is about 3298. I believe this is without a driver or fuel, but all other fluids present. I removed around 240 pounds from my car, mostly interior non functional items, and got the weight without gas, but with all other fluids down to 3060 pounds (grain elevator scale accuracy +/- 20 pounds). Frank,

Can you share some of the methods on the weight savings..... my 85 is in need of a weight loss, but hard to do..... thanks.

btw, I'm from the Pontiac area.... mother was born and raised in Pontiac, still have a lot of family their. I owned a small farm just outside of Pontiac on the Vermillion river about 1/2 way to Fairbury last year, but sold it. Great area to live.... small town life. :)

cheers,
Beach

btw,

My 85 weighed 3220 with 1/2 tank of gas quite a while ago.... since then I dumped some weight here and their, but unfortunately the steel roll bar I installed added it all back and probably a few extra. :(

Wow 240 lb is a nice amount of reduction :)...

I'd be interested also... I know my spare tire is about 35 lb.. I also changed to Weld Pro Star wheels... another 50 lb. I suppose if I removed the AC and related parts I'd get another 50 out..I also installed a Vigilante 9" converter, that was a lot lighter than my stock one, & removes the mufflers another 30lb.

As of now I weigh 3400 with me in the car and 1/4 tank of gas.

I was thinking of a plexyglass rear window... but have no idea where or how much $$ one would be?

where do you find 240LBS in the car! I'm not talking about under the hood or on the car, but IN the car??

Here are some ideas I have tried:

I changed the seats, the stock ones were very heavy with dual power motors, the new ones are not and more support and leg room. That all I could find in the car. Under the hood, the smog pump removed with the BPP elim kit, cuts some serious weight at the nose. Moving the battery to the back helps. I removed the spare as well. Dump the jack also. Dynomax exhuast was also a bit lighter than stock.

If anyone else has resonable ideas for a daily driver, not a stripper :D please share.

At launch with 1/4-1/3 tank of fuel my '88 and I weigh in at 3350-3370lbs; I weigh about 170lbs and the spare & jack delete is about 50lbs. So the curb weight is:
3350(total)-170(me)+90(3/4 tank fuel)+50(spare & jack)=3320lbs
Meanwhile the '88 coupe curb weight is listed as 3245lbs.

Curb weight is with all fluids, sans driver. I suspect the listed curb weight is the base Vette, without any options.

My 96 6 speed weighed 3220 with no gas or people.

It has two options-power driver's base seat and LT4/6 speed.

With me in the car(190 lbs),1/4 tank of gas, no mufflers(only saved 17 lbs), no spare or carrier, a little bit of junk in the hatch(CD's and such), car weighed 3368 in 2000.
In 2001, I added Harness bar(15lbs), I gained some weight(about 8 lbs). Spare in and half tank of gas, more junk in hatch, I weighed in at 3502. But with the heavier weight(especially the 1/2 tank and spare back in) I feel it gave me better weight transfer and better launches, because I was able to better my time by 2 hundreths with no other changes.

JP, DRM has all that Lexan stuff.

Explain how:
I also changed to Weld Pro Star wheels... another 50 lb.
That would mean the welds are about 12 pounds lighter than the stock wheels.
I just can't see that. Ok, on my C3...yes, the wheels are pretty heavy...but on the C4 ( I have 87 and 93 wheels ), the one thing that really stood out when I did my tires was the fact the stock wheels are so light in the first place, I doubt they even weigh 12 pounds without the tires on them, seriously.

BBA, If you've never felt a Weld 3-1/2 inch front wheel.. you don't know how light they are... there is almost nothing to them. Not to mention the fact the skinner front tire weights less.

Mine weighs in at 3400lbs with 1/4 tank of gas and 160 lbs of me in it. I weighed it at the track scale at Bandimere several times. I have my spare, AC etc, the only things removed are precats and frisbee.

My '90 weighed in at 3405# (no driver) with a good half tank, a four point rollbar, double 3"camlock belts (along with the factory belts) and some misc crap in the car. I have since removed the spare, jack, lug wrench and the frisbee. I removed the factory oil cooler, but added an Accusump, and remote oil cooler, both installed with about 20 feet of braided line. So net-net, I probably haven't done much to lose any weight.

The '90 stock wheels are very heavy in 9 1/2". I run the Amold GS wheels in 9 1/2" and 11" with the 275/315 tire combo. (Kumho V700) The Amold's only weigh in at ~21# for the 11" and a pound less for the 9 1/2" 's.

The seats and the Bose weigh tons. I'll probably loose the seats in favor of roadrace seats. That alone will prolly wipe out at least a total of 40-50 lbs.

3490, (me 250+) 1/2 tank of gas, always ran the car at 3440 but the new 50 lbs is the chrome moly rollbar.

Wow...19 pounds. Thanks, I would have never thought they were that heavy.

I know the Weld-lites weigh next to nothing, I have put them on cars before. ( Well, a Rustang anyway :D )

Default Re: Anyone ever weighed they C4? (Beach Bum)

Beach Bum, No problem, glad to share info. I'm surprised more people don't use the weight savings technique to gain performance or gas mileage. My car is a 10 month driver (remember the weather here in central IL.) I still have the spare tire for crash protection, and also the jack and handle and locking lug nut key in place. I also have the AC, and Bose stereo system in place, along with lots of other not absolutly necessary items such as passive keyless entry, cruise control, ASR in the weight I reported.

I removed ALL the carpeting, and all the insulation except the insulation over the transmission. I removed the carpeted panels above the feet of the driver and passenger. Some of the dash vents are removed, along with the console and its heavy wiring (for dual power sport seats). I removed the fuse box cover along with other trim pieces on both sides of the IP that you don't see when the doors are closed. I still have the door panels in place for crash protection, and have removed the beautiful Collector Edition power seats and power rails, and replaced them with two sets of manual seat rails, and only the drivers seat from a base 84 Corvette. I can bolt the 84 passengers seat in in about 2 minutes when I travel with someone. I removed the plastic trim over the parking brake lever along with the carpeted door sills. I removed all the rear area plastic trim including the roll shade. I also removed the rear inside lamp covers, along with the brackets to store the roof panel. I removed the roof panel wrench and the owners manual. In the engine compartment I removed the windshield washer bottle, about 9 pounds full, and the engine trim covers and the 4 bolts that the covers attach to. I eliminated one of the hoses and a clamp or two when I bypassed the throttle body coolant. I also removed the horn on the drivers side. Eliminating the mufflers saved 36 pounds, but I estimate adding in straight pipe to replace the mufflers added 8 pounds back. I know that removing the stereo system, without the antenea removed, would save 23 pounds, but I found I didn't enjoy the car as much without the stereo. On the outside I removed the wheelcenter ornaments, along with the lug nut plastic covers. I would love to remove all the CE ornaments, but it doesn't seem worth the effort. Surprisingly, I added a little weight by using 275 tires instead of 255's on the front in the interest of saving money. I know most people would not do what I did to my car, but I drive mine as much as 500 miles at a time this way and love what I did.

Has anyone removed all the AC components from a LT1or LT4 and know what they weigh in total, or if it is even possible to reroute with a new shorter belt? Also does anyone know what a Lexan rear hatch window saves in weight and how much it costs? The gas cover painted lid assembly weighs a lot but I cant figure out a way to attach just the painted plastic piece and eliminate the die cast base. Any other ideas for saving weight without affecting safety?
Trying for less than 3000 # ! FrankLT4CE :chevy

Default Re: (scorp508)

Here's some information that may be interesting.

* Front 15 x 3.5 Weld draglite rims with MT ET Fronts = 21 lbs
* Front 15 x 3.5 Weld draglite rims with Radial skinnies = 29 lbs
* Rear 16" Weld Draglite XP rims with 26" ET Streets = 50 lbs
(As a note, the XP series which is designed to clear late model brakes is a tad heavier than the normal Weld rims)
* Stock Rear rims with street radial = 51 lbs.
* 85 sway bar (non-Z51) = 10 lbs
* A/C system = 26 lbs
* passenger seat = 18 lbs (Not much weight with mine)
* Rear hatch sun visor cover and bar = 8 lbs
* Smog pump = 16 lbs
* Mild steel 5 point rollbar = 80 lbs approxmiately
* Chrome Moly 5 point rollbar = 40-50 lbs approxmiately
* 5 point Harnass/latches = 10 lbs
* Spare tire & jack = 50 lbs approxmiately

I'm going out of memory on some of the weights listed above, but believe they're correct.

Without spending a gob of money, I don't know how to lose any additional weight than listed above. I would like a lightweight stock appearing hood, but they're gobs of money.... same with doors. I won't replace the glass with plexi though... going a little too far for me.
