1984 overheating
Hi everyone,
My engine overheated. I installed a new thermostat in hope to solve the problem. Same thing happened again. I had a problem with new thermostats in the past I just kept replacing them until problem went away (different vehicle). For diagnostic purposes would it make a difference if I remove the thermostat completely? Fan is also not working. Fuse is ok, relay is ok and fan motor is running ok as I tested it. Is fan critical to maintain desirable temperature? The car rapidly overheats.
Thanks

To answer your question if the fan is critical, it is! Especially in hot temps. You need to find out why its not turning on. I don't think you have a thermostat problem. You may want to check the sensor between cyl's 6 and 8 on the passenger side.

I just replaced the switch and fain kicks in. The collant doesn't boil over either. It's a hot day today (30 degrees celcius) so I will take it for a longer ride and see what happens.
Thanks for the reply and will keep you posted.
