Degreased my Motor...Now Wipers Won't Turn off
Today I decided to degrease my motor since I wasn't up to much else. When I was finished, I started the car and the windshiled wipers came on and wouldn't shut off. The faster function works, and I can get them to stop, but they won't return to the hidden position below the hood. I need a little help since I'll be driving out to Ontario Airport to pick up my Girlfriend friday. I'd hate to drive all the way there with my wipers wiping a dry windshield. Do you think I just need to let whatever is shorting dry out it'll be fine? I sure hope so.
Thanks a lot! Happy New Year!!!

We should combine problems. :) I took my motor apart and now my windshield wipers don't work.
Anyways, to fix it, I'd just let it dry out, you might want to try to trace down a bare wire too, to save future problems.

Probably a short like ya said. You could pour some alcohol over the wiper box (with the engine cold and off!) and let it sit overnight, or take a blow drier to it if you don't mind weird looks from the neighbors. Pull the fuse in the meantime until it dries out.

You crack me up. You know I was thinking about the blow dryer during dinner! :D :D :D :D I even imagined my neighbors starring in wonder about what the heck I was doing. I'll let it dry out and see what happens. Sorry to hear your motor isn't working. Maybe theres a grounding problem or something. I dunno. Good luck with it though. Thanks a lot guys.

Is this motor the same as on the L-98's as well?
I had a crack on the top of my cover to the motor, washed the motor down and it shorted, fryed some wires as well... The cover has some electronics in it, to replace the cover/electronics I found costs 100 bucks....
If I can remember right, I could not shut my wipers off when this happened.

I have a similar problem with my '93. It seems as though any washing of the motor compartment area allows a little water to get into the motor assembly. When driving down the road the wipers will turn on all by themselves! It happens waay to consistently and I never drive the car in the rain, so I finally just left the motor unplugged. Problem fixed!

Thats exactly what I found. There is a crack on the motor housing. So is it done? I need to buy a new one? If I unplug the motor will the wipers return to their original position? What a pain!!! How does that get cracked!!!! :mad Thanks guys.

If there was a crack allowing moisture to enter the housing I would fill the crack with clear liquid silicone as a "waterproofer". Just an idea.

hopefully it will dry out, compressed air or the hairdryer should work to speed it up. Then seal that crack with silicone or something. May be able to save a bunch if you can find a used one. I find that when you hose down an engine these days theres way to many electronics that get wet. Ive lost a MAP sensor, TPS sensor, alternator. Now I just use a wet towell. Also some more advise...even though it may look nice, spraying hoses and parts with shiney stuff is not good either, specially Oxy sensors.

Just unplug the connector on the wiper motor and see if the connections have gotten wet.
