Default are elims a noticeable decrease in power?

Just wondering if I am going to be able to tell? I love the sound and can't afford anything else right now. I just hate to give up the power! Is it that big a difference? Is there anyway to not lose the backpressure?

With the sound you'll be hearing, I don't see how you would ever imagine to feel a loss, even if there was a slight one.

OH Baby...I love the way mine sounds, and I didn't see a decrease in power. But I did see an increase in the the looks I got from all the fine women in California that are sick and tired of hearing a ricer go down the street with a fart pipe on! Love them SoCal girls! :D

I did mine about 3 weeks ago and haven't noticed any change in power. I must admit, i looooovvvvve the sound! Now she growls with acceleration and burbles with deceration. :D :D :D

I had a local muffler shop do the work. I had to call several to find one that was willing to do it - all the big muffler chains wouldn't touch the job.

This point is disputed by Vizard, Emanual and Lingenfelter. They all claim that the only exhaust component that can increase torque by adding restriction is long tube headers. Everything else is a restriction, robbing torque/HP. If you have stock exhaust manifolds and cats, muffler elims won't reduce torque.

On a stock LT-1 motor, you can certainly lose torque as the cam is designed to have some back pressure present. Mr.Mojo has proven this at a drag strip by losing 1mph in the 1/4 with the only change being muffler elims. It may not be noticable, but the loss is there.

Less than 1% change in MPH for different days isn't the results I'd use make an informed choice. I don't want to start a flame war, I'm just quoting Vizard, Emanual and Lingenfelter, I'd think they would know.

I understand what they are saying... but with dual cats and cast headers, I cannot beleive the elims are going to loose all that backpressure...

Perhaps I'm mistaken, so please educate me, what design parameters make it such that a "cam is designed to have some back pressure present".

If I was a camshaft engineer, I could prolly tell you that... but since I'm not, I'm going off actual numbers that we're done at a drag strip... a car that runs a certain MPH over and over, day after day doesn't suddenly lose 1MPH just because... the only change done was the elims. No one said it was a huge or noticable loss.. but it is still a loss.

Please show me where the names you mentioned did their testing on a dyno or dragstrip on a 100% bone stock LT-1.

From experiance driving a '90 both ways (with and w/o) I think there is at least no penalty for having muffler elims, if not a top end gain in performance.

I am one who did notice a decrease in low-end torque with muffler eliminators. Possibly because our 96 has an automatic. Low-end felt much "weaker", but the LT1 came alive at the top end. I have since installed a Corsa system and now I feel I have the best of both worlds - power and sound.
