Default Best shocks for the money??

On my 84 I installed edelbrock IAS shocks, and seem pretty good. I need a set for my 85 budget vette, but would like to spend a little less. The car is not raced, just for running around in the country and on the highway. Which to get? I perfer a shock with a little color, the vette is black, so red would be nice.

TPIS makes a shock that I had on my '85 Z51 some years back. I really liked 'em. Here.

They are good shocks for a street car. Decent ride but they inspire confidence in the corners

Tokico HP's are on ebay all the time for the low $200s I'm hooked on the Koni yellows but they are pricey. My vote is KYB or Tokico for budget shocks

I have Edelbrock IAS on my Chevelle, KYB on my Nova, Koni on my Z28, Almost any good shocks will get you by for the most part..!

Its when you really drive the car hard that a better shock will be of some benefit. With the Vette being as stiff as it is, has good sway bars and as well designed as it is, it doesn't roll much in the 1st place during normal Daily Driving. So..for a DD, don't go overboard with a really stiff shock if not really needed.

But I think you can get by with KYB's for a good low cost shock for normal or a quick trip thought the country side.

KYB's are fine for a daily driver. Don't buy Monroe.

I must be the only person that doesnt like KYB's. I've had them in my truck and they're on my vette. The ride is extremely harsh with them on either vehicle, almost like they're worn out. I had bilsteins on my Buick and absolutely loved them, yes they cost more but its what I would go with on the vette.

nope me too...unless there is a race or gold edition of KYB, the guys must be smokin)

The order of precendence my good friends
crap (Kyb, rancho, monro, pepboys special)
OK... edelbrock
More than OK.... Adj Koni's
Good for "Go and not show"...Blisteins (many variants to suit needs)
best OTS...Tokico if you can find them
And then there are the coil-overs adjustable

Tokico's are the way to go, i've tried them all and Tokico's cant be beat. I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about them, always positive comments. And yes you can find them on e-bay for around 200.00....G

I had the KYB's, and they are about as far from a performance shock as you can get. I went back to Bilsteins.

The edelbrocks are around $400 for 4. Why are they not as good as a $200 set? Has there ever been a shock shootout in a magazine or even on this forum? Would like to see a magazine article on this subject.

KYB and Tokico make a good, quality shock at a reasonable price. Great choice for a daily driver where ride may be more important than ultimate handling.

I sell Monroe, and they are teh suck....I have KYB's on my car currently, and don't care for them. I just
bought a set of Bilstiens, and have had great luck with them on my F-body cars in teh past....

Check out those ebay auctions for the Tokico HP's, i know i chimed in once but these other posts have me thinking. After driving on most of the steel bodied shocks out there on various cars i normally wind up with Koni or Tokico. The Tokicos are a great daily driver shock with pretty decent control, not like a Koni but only 1/3rd the price. The Bilstein specials and Koni sports are your higher end and far stiffer shock but i can't help but suggest you find someone with Tokico's and go for a ride. I'm using Tokico's on my own daily driver Integra and love them. Koni's on the Vette though but i also have much stiffer VBP springs.
