Think it's a good filter.
When you buy one there are two things to check.
1.) Make sure somebody didn't switch the filter in the box with a cheapo.
2.) Look inside through the hole all the way to the end cap where the filter media meets the end of the case. There should be a nice even ring of silicone all they way around sealing the filter media to the case. If uneven or missing pick another.
Wish we could find tests of the K&N oil filter somewhere, I would like to see that comparison as well.
Good Luck with your choice,
Pete
EDIT: Nevermind, just learned they don't make them anymore! :cry

I always buy a filter that is wrapped in plastic. You never know what could be dropped in there. I'm using Frams top of the line filter (triad).

Has anybody heard of an "Extreme" filter. I was told to try one but I'm wondering if that is the only name it goes by or if its a brand name manufacturers "line" of filters or what???

You are worried about buying a filter with garabage in it, yet you put a Fram on
your Vette? Filter comparos and links notwithdtanding, I cut apart a Fram
once, I was torn between pukin' and getting pissed off! What a piece of garbage.
I compare (equally) Fram's advertising with the original VW. Good/catchy advertising
can sell just about anything. Pay me now or pay me later. How true, how true.

Actually, a few years back, Consumer Report, I believe, found the filtering micron level of the fram to be best among several that they compared. I, however, feel that there is probably something newer and better by now. I do know one that I will never purchase again, the mobil one filter! This filter allowed my valve train to chatter on start up like the teeth on taliban in winter with the sound of a B1 overhead. The car had sat for a week or so. I am fixin to change it to the K&N non-reverse flow check valve filter this week. The Mobil one oil is great stuff but you can have their filters. I wrote it up in the 'review' section. :boxing

Arnold, I agree with you about the fram, The filter destroyed a band new Buick 455 ci engine. It appers that the filter bypass failed restricting oil flow at high rpm ( as high as a BB Buick gets :) ) the thing turned into a balloon bulging at both ends!!!! We lost all the mains :cry I run away from the orange box!!!

Some one on the forum also mentioned they had a Fram filter collapse internally and spew out the dirty contents back into the oil!
I have heard that Fram's racing oil filters are pretty good though. These are the ones about 5" diameter...not something you find at the parts store.

Whatever is closest to the oil when I need it. I'm using a Mobil 1 right now. but it's had FRAM for the last uh.. 30k miles.
