1987 seatbelt recall ?? shoulder harness
My 87 shoulder harness will not retract properly. Passenger shoulder harness has excessive "SLACK" . Shoulder harness will not stay snug.
How do I fix this problem ? There is a recall on the shoulder harness for the 87 Corvettes. My Dealer can't find the recall number.
Thanks

ampaign numbers are here. The recall is for the "life of the car" as it's a safety issue. Note too that it your belts are working fine, then the dealer isn't obligated to perform the recall.

He should be able to pull up your VIN number to see if your car had the recall done. It's actually 2 seperate campaign numbers. One for the drivers side and one for the passenger.

Same thing happened to ours years ago . The big thing was that were the cross stich is in the webbing to stop it from retacting all the way back in, it was to thin causing it to bind. The newer unit had a thicker stich in it that would prevent this from happening. If you get no help from the dealer you might find someone to whip a little bigger stich in the same spot which should stop it. What people where doing where they would try to put the belt on while driving and thin it would stick and then they would start to fight it while trying to steer I will let you guess what would happen next.

Just take the following numbers into your dealer and tell then these are the service information document ID numbers and they should be able to find them, in around 98 they updated their campaign ID numbers and in the process some of the older ones kind of got lost and are difficult to find at times, but the ID numbers below refer to the document numbers found in SI for campaign #'S ID20, ID40, 91C25 AND 91C26

FYI you can clean them up pretty well with some compressed air. The case requires some finesse to open without breaking any plastic tabs, but isn't too hard. Mine work like new again. Though I also picked up some new ones in case they didn't. They are getting harder to find in certain colors.

Seatbelt Recall- GM told me that it does not apply to my car
Just called GM 1-800-222-1020 Mark Jones- According to Mark my 1987 is not listed for a seatbelt recall. He looked it up with my VIN. I guess not all 1987 Corvettes are effected???
Problem is my seat belt/shoulderharness will not retract per the recall.
I think GM/Chevy may not be correct, stating that my VIN does not apply??
Chevy does have a new seatbelt available for $212.90

it may be hard to find the belts in the proper colour. When I got mine done a few years ago, they said that I got the last set of graphite coloured belts that GM had available. Maybe that's true or maybe the dealer was lying to me (that would hardly be shocking)!

You got the "last" ones in stock...that is until the next shipment
