Last one I put on came from AutoZone, hasn't given me any problems.

If you get it at Autozone, buy the new one. It isn't much more than the rebuilt one and you get a lifetime warranty with it. Just my 2¢ worth.

I went through 2 from autozone in about a 6 months time.
Went to NAPPA and got one and it has been on for 3 years now.

If you kept starting the car up, you probably just wore the battery down. It won't recharge from just idling for a bit.

Try charging the battery. If it won't hold a charge, replace it. I wouldn't go replacing the alternator without some further troubleshooting.

To your first point, my car turns about 13.3-13.5 volts at idle once warmed up. That's a bit on the low side, but that's how it goes. I cleaned up some of the grounds and connections which helped a little. But it charges fine once the engine gets moving.

9 volts will not excite the alternator. Please charge the battery before spending a dime on any thing else. Later! Frank

I charged the battery from unit that plugs into the wall and it worked fine. Battery is back up to the voltage and starts. Thanks!

Step 1 -- Take your battery out of the car and charge it. Step 2 -- Bring the battery to Autozone (or your favorite parts place) and have them test it -- for free.
Step 3 -- Depends on the results of Step 2

Bought an '86 just before Christmas. Each time I've run it the voltage has stayed at 14.3 religiously!
