Default '89 tune-up

Time to tune-up the 33,000 mile '89, looking for suggestions (Delco or aftermarket) on plugs, wires, cap, etc. Thanks.

Been using AC Delco for years, alot of guy like NGK, stay away from the so called elite plugs...waste of money and can cause problems. As far as cap, rotor, coil, and plug wires go....I get all mine from NAPPA.

Stay AC/Delco I used stock on mine at 47,000 miles and it runs great.

Don't the AC/Delco platinums still have the problem of the "puck" falling off?
When I had my 88 I used the regular AC/Delco plugs.
Always use anti-sieze on the threads on install!

Plug removal is difficult without a bunch of extensions. On my 88 I removed the AC compressor (pass side) to get at #2 & 4 eaisier.

I have 71,000 on my 1989, and still have original plugs, replaced wires while back Delco. You know the old saying, if it works leave it alone.

A tune up on a 89 thru 91 Corvette should also include a check on the resistance of the injector coils. Spec is 16.5 +/- .3 ohms when cold. If they check fine, leave them alone. Also do not use ANY fuel injector cleaner in these year cars with stock injectors.

I agree with the recommendation of parts for the tune up. Use either GM or NAPA parts.

Happy New Year!

On my 89 instead of removing the air compressor I just take the center inner fender off ( the part that covers the top of the shock and upper A-arm ) only 4 bolts ,10mm if i remember correctly, then you can reach #2 & 4 with a universal and long extension. I also use about a foot long piece of 3/8" gas line for installing the new plugs. It holds the insulators on the plugs tight and makes it easier to see that you are getting the new plug started right in the threads so you wont mess up your aluminum heads As far as plugs go stick with AC Delco or Autolite standard. None of my cars like the platinum plugs just a waste of money.
