I read about a lot of different vendors selling rear bearing and I was wondering if anyone came to a conclusion on the best priced bearing for a car thats not autocrossed or raced for the most part. I will open it up sometimes, but thats rare. I also have the larger Grandsport replica wheels in the back that are really wide it that matters. I just ordered my VB&P rear suspension rebuld kit (trailing arms, strut rods, shocks, 12in lowering bolts, 26mm rear sway bar and toe rods) and dont want to tear down the rear again a few months later because of the bearings. I saw some on ebay but am afraid to buy anything until I run it by the Forum first.

How well are these bearings holding up? I do a lot of traveling with my car and cannot afford to have one go out when I am out of town. I have one of the OEM's showing a little play so I suppose that I will have to do them both if I decide to go with the tapered bearings. It really sucks because the right side one is only about a year old.

Has anyone run the bearings from Michigan? When I go to buy these things (I will have to buy two so they match) I don't want to buy the $200 ones if the $130 ones are working good.

As best as I recall talking to the guy "from Michigan", he was the only mfgr of the tapered brngs for C4's. All the other sellers were buying from him.

As for matched sets, well that must be a new spec. The old spec was to build all the bearings with identical runout. Cause when I received the order from MI, I packaged two bearings as they came out of the big box.

BTW I recall one CF member having a tapered fail inside 10K. Never did hear how his warranty worked out. Mine have over 25K and still seem quite...

I spoke to the guy in Michigan. JrRifleCoach is correct, Michigan guy is the manufacturer. Van Steel is buying from them. Rear hubs only. Van Steel discontinued selling the tapered front bearings due to some wear/warranty issues. May want to call Van Steel and discuss.

That may have been mine. The right side failed in less than 1,000 miles.

Warranty did not work out at all because you said you would get back to me but never did.

has anyone else had any successes or failures on these wheel bearings? I am preparing a car for the road course and would like to make sure I put some components in that will hold up for some abuse. I understand changing them will be inevitable with this kind of use but don't want to have to do it every race weekend.

Thanks in advance!

I've currently been running a rear set of heavy duty roller bearings (Temkin) offered/moded by Vansteel (CF vedor)....no problems but have less than 1,000 miles on them so far. Very nice pieces! ~$200 each. If these fail prematurely I'll let you know but so far these are performing very well on my "street" application.

Just replaced my original OEM's after 75K and over a 100 hours of track time but they were trashed, the hubs were in pieces and the bearings and races fell out as I removed them! I will be verifying the torque on the 36mm axle nut after each outing as I think it may be a more reliable indicator than just wobbling the wheel and observing play. My axle nuts were finger tight when I removed them. I think the nut is an item that needs watchful inspection and retorqueing to maximize service life.

I put these on back in January last year. 5 track weekends (10 days) and no issues. This year should be a little tougher on them, plan is about 15 weekends. We'll see how they stand up.

very cool, Please keep me posted guys. I just replaced mine with some units from Napa to get by and now i expect they may not last more than a month or so? they were a machined finish look completely different then the ones that came out.

If these fail i very seriously may redesign the entire rear knuckle for use with a different bearing larger stronger 40 spline spindle and coil over shock mount provision.

ack..

Yes, this bearing can be reassembled with a new bearing set - see my post "wheel bearing replacement project" posted June 18-19, 2011 for more details. Ready for questions.

I just realized I did not followup last year with a report.
First event last year was CMP, 2nd event was Road Atl.
With R6 tires the passenger rear bearing was done, shot, 2 pieces - no longer 1.
Put a set of NOS AC/Delco and so far (~20 events) they have not gone bad.
