Is there a way to route the plug wires by the tensioner so they don't touch?

Default Is there a way to route the plug wires by the tensioner so they don't touch?

My LT1/LT4's driver's side plug wires currently come out of the distributor and then all immediately get bunched up together as they pass under and around the tensioner. I thought that running spark plug wires against each other was a big no-no unless they touch at 90 degrees.

How do you keep the plug wires from running against each other through that area? I tried using a linear plug wire separator there but it was too big, and the tensioner wouldn't fit back on without it crushing the top wire.

I noticed that you have LT headers like me. On the drivers side with stock length wire set I routed mine underneath and up so they attach to the plugs from the bottom. I did not like the idea of the wires roasting like hotdogs on a grill routing them of top of the header tubes and like you said smashed through that small space next to the pulley/tensioner. I used some zip ties to secure them on the drivers side.

For stock sized wires there's a stock wire holder you can use.

My MSD's were too fat for it, I would up running 3 under the alternator brace as normal, but I ran one outside of it.

You mean there was a stock wire holder near that area, with the tensioner and power steering pump? I don't remember there being one until much later, when the wires get to the side of the A/C compressor.

No, that's the one I mean.
Push the wires down tight before you clip them in and they should stay out of the way.

I don't have it anymore, but I can't see how keeping the wires separate way over there could influence their degree of separation as they come out of the distributor and go behind the power steering pump. As far as I know, my wires are of the stock routing around that area, but they touch each other for several inches, as well as the tensioner, the power steering pump, and especially the accessory bracket.

You may want to replace it. setup from the factory they don't rub.

Interesting, but it still doesn't show how they manage to negotiate the tensioner and power steering pump. Could anyone provide some more enlightenment as to the intended stock routing on the driver's side?

Guys, I think I may have figured out why my routing seems so bad. I don't think my wires are routed the same as stock.

On your LT1/LT4, do the driver's side plug wires go in FRONT of the power steering pump, or do they tuck in BEHIND it, between it and the accessory brace?

They go behind it.
Here is a picture (without the pump though), but you can see how they go behind where the pump will go.

That's a great picture, thanks. I think my problem is that mine are not quite routed that way... see that little divot in the accessory bracket, after the tensioner and right above the wires? When I tore the car down the first time I found that all my wires were routed through that, instead of beneath the bracket like in that picture. I'll take another look at it to be sure, but I think if I move them out of there they won't be all stuffed together like they are. Thanks again.
